Early Shift Allowance

Post by John1028 »

Hi, I wonder could someone please help out with a question??

I have worked for Royal Mail for 6 years ( 1 year part time, 5 years full time )

My problem is that I have always been on the early shift and basically should have been entitled to the Early Shift Allowance, but I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I have received such a payment.

I found out today that other colleagues who started the same time as I did have been receiving the allowance all along!!

So my question is can I claim back the money owed to me, or is it my own problem which I can do nothing about??

Thanks for any help!! ( By the way there are a few others in my office who are in the same situation as I am!! )

I also found out a couple of days ago that I wasn't getting the shift allowance.I have been with RM for 5 years and the last payment I had was in Nov 2005 and previous to that I didn't get the allowance every week.In fact in the 8 months up to the November I only got paid it about 12 times all of which are on record in the wages dept.
I raised this issue with the union rep and he was looking into it for me saying meantime that he couldn't see any reason why firstly it was stopped and secondly why I shouldn't get it back.
I suggest you speak to your union rep and mention it to your manager as well.GOOD LUCK!!

Hi,

Thankyou for your reply!! I did raise the matter with my Union Rep today and he also said he would look into the situation, he also seemed quite concerned as to why I hadn't been receiving it. So I thought I'd do my own research meanwhile and see if anyone else out there was in the same situation....It seems you and I are in the same boat and probably countless others!! GOOD LUCK to you too!!! And hopefully we get the right result!!

Here's hoping so,I don't know how long you have gone without it but maybe we should have noticed it had been stopped. However we didn't and it is money that is rightfully ours surely, especially when others have been getting it all the while.

Hi Nationwide,

Just to let you know that I found out today that another guy who works in our office and started around 2 weeks after me also noticed a few months ago that his allowance had stopped being paid. He made a query and got all his money back paid til his start date in 2004, and is now receiving his shift allowance in his weekly pay.

Hopefully this is good news for us!!!

Yes you can claim this money back! On the old style wage slips ( not sure if it's on the new ones) it said any over-payment or under-payment will be rectified. If you know that you should of been reciving it then phone wages (number is on wage slip)

Ive just emailed my DOM as I suspect the problem lies with my buy down of hours in Sept 2007. When the CS money was paid in 2008 I was underpaid as RM thought I had only joined in Sept 2007 when I actually joined in August 1991:d'oh!

Im wondering if my Shift money is being paid at the rate of a new entrant rather than as an :hmmmm adult OPG who has completed the trial period.

Im getting £4.65 but the shift allowance document i have says £6.18.
