Laughably bad?

Post by opgpat »

Here's a summary of 2010 New Agreement - please add anything missed:

Pros

:hmmmm

39hr week - Does that mean we'll be expected to do the same workload over the week with an hour less to do it in?!? Oh no ofcourse it doesn't because the workload will be increasing with uncapped D2D's.
More Saturdays off - 'Royal Mail and CWU commit to providing more Saturday off options'.(p25) What does that actually commit them to? Nothing. It could easily mean a token ammount of duties (say 1 in 20) being made 1 Sat off per month by a bully-boy DOM not interested in the staff. The rest of us work till 3pm.
Workload reassed The wording doesn't make it clear if their WILL be a pegasus revision in every DO to allow for the uncapping of D2D. But If it does happen the program will now include D2D traffic and steps and other variables that have been convieniently largely ignored before. So fairer walks should be a result. Fairer as in most should take the same time to deliver. This time however will be extended past 3 1/2 hr present standard delivery to 4, 4 1/2, 5 or more hours. :d'oh!

Cons

Unlimited D2D - and 52 wks per year so no Xmas break. Imagine xtra seasonal D2D AND XMas mail?!? Also 100% call rate everyday especially Sat where some D2D customers will request a Sat-only delivery. For this you will get nothing. 20 quid will be added to pay to keep us donkeys in carrots. 15quid for part-timers

Below inflation pay award/pay freeze The Bank of Englands latest inflation forcast report states 'The risks around the most likely path for inflation are judged to lie to the upside, reflecting the possibility of further increases in commodity prices, and the risk that a sustained period of above-target inflation might cause inflation expectations to rise.' BOE target is around 2% and if they achieved that the award would be 1% above inflation over 3 years or 0.3% pa - as good as a pay freeze. If inflation hits 3 or 4% per year as they say is possible then we would have agreed to a 2-5% pay decrease. It is clearly NOT the right time to lock in a 3year pay deal as the economics are still very uncertain. It should be a 1year deal to be renegotiated in 2011.

Later finishes and longer walks Essentially an extended delivery time, 3pm finish. Wave hello to working through the hottest part of the day in summer. Wave hello to life changing skeletal injuries such as bad knees, ankles, backs. This will see a 10 year career being enough for most before they pack it in and carry their injuries with them for the rest of their lives. Vans and trolleys are supposed to be taking the weight off but does a van go up a flight of stairs? 4 1/2 or 5 hours of delivery work everyday is too much with either a heavy bag or a medium one. Also wave hello to taking a pee in the back of your van. :funneh
