So weve heard the outline of the new agreement,i can accept and agree that changes need to be made to the buisness, but MY two major sticking points are as follows,
The way they are going to implement our D2D payments into our wage, how can we be sure this is going to be done fair and square?I have around 500 delivery points on my walk,A Town Centre duty that delivers to around 30 residential properties is going to recieve the same payment as me??,How on earth can that be fair?
The working till 3PM on a Saturday,I like many others have a second job, which pays my mortgage,If i was to finish at 3PM on a saturday i would probably have to quit my second job, when i brought this up to my Delivery Office Manager he basically told me i should choose which is my primary job,My job at RM or my 2nd job.........i wish it was that easy,as i wouldnt have a 2nd job if i didnt need the money.
In my office alone a large majority of my friends, like most blokes live for football who strive to follow their team home and away, some have done for 30 years plus, they are now realising that with this 3PM finish on a Saturday being implemented,it would be impossible to attend many games if any at all.
I use Football just as an example, there are many more reasons why people dont want to work any later on a Saturday,it will suit some people, but i suspect the majority would be unhappy about a later finish on a Saturday.
I asked my manager during work time learning who was going to pick my children up from school,he basically shrugged his shoulders and never gave me an answer, this is coming from a buisness that once prided itself on being family orientated.
I know some people will disagree with me here, but i think all RM employees whether in the union or not should get a vote on these changes, our entire working life as we know it will change massivly, and its my belief everyone should get a vote.
I shall be voting NO when my ballot paper arrives, but i fear that the changes will be voted in because so many people will be tempted by the lump sums, yes a lump sum of money is nice.........but when its spent and you reflect on the things we have to do in voting it in,people will be sorry.
Added to that RM have said that there will be around 50,000 job losses, how anyone can vote yes for this is beyond belief.
I have worked for RM for almost 12 years now,a job i once loved and sadly have absolutly no interest in it whatsoever anymore,i feel my whole life is dictated by RM and even moreso should these new working times come in.
Anyway just my thoughts, anyone want to add to this thread with your thought please feel free.

Most people think the same in my DO

Re: Think Before You Vote
Its obvious changes need to be made but not at the expense of taking peoples earnings from D2D and PROTECTED pay allowances and replacing them with a feeble blanket payment of £20.60.
RM and CWU should have averaged out D2D payments per DO, added the protected ESA and given that sum out per office per week. How hard can that be?
Under the new park and loop some loops in my DO will be over 1200 drops, twice as many as the aveerage walk now! How can double the drops and an unlimited amount of D2D be worth £20.60? This is just RM stealing from the workforce.
Modernisation of the business YES.
Raping the staff of their income NO.

Re: Think Before You Vote
and hidden deep with the agreement is "date targeted D2Ds to be delivered on specific days" Saturdays perhaps and I bet they pay a premium for it.pickaname wrote:They get to run walk sequencing machines on saturdays.Trinity wrote:I can't think of one advantage anybody gets (inc Royal Mail) from making Saturday a later finish ?

Re: Think Before You Vote
Is the problem more d2d because of longer spans or the amount being paid? We all have a finish time and no-one will have to work past this, so if 5/6 d2d in a week, will you have to take 1 per day or all at 20%? .....Sure enough RM had to change and if the union NOT been involved then all these changes would happen with no input and then we would be really shafted. As for 2nd jobs and footie etc. what can a manager do, he is told to make cuts/savings and all other bullsh*t stuff to cover his office, so at the end of the day he cannot change anything to suit certain people
.
About the only thing possible is to get your rep to introduce as many 4 day weeks/9 day fortnights to give you more saturdays off over the year, not great but more weekends off are better than nowt.

Re: Think Before You Vote
So mail center staff gain £8 a week and most delivery staff lose up to £30+ per week but get £20.60...
So delivery staff get pay cut...
