Re: Being overweight, are you fit to do your job?
I was trying to counteract the argument RM have that on Tuesdays, because it is light, some people have a shorter working day to be made up later on. If someone is, say, 2 stone over the weight they began with doing x amount of work, , surely having to carry around that extra weight should "weigh" in our favour, excuse the pun.

Re: Being overweight, are you fit to do your job?
When i went for my interview some 14 years ago fitness didnt even come into so i very much doubt it would now.
If R/M think your unfit to the do the job and your a F/T they will do all in there power to get shut of you whether it by means of performance standards or through what they would class as ill health ,but on the flip side if its going to cost them money they would seek to remove you from employment through the standards procedure.
If anythink ive lost a considerable amount of weight since i started i was never over weight but a very fit person with a good physic now im like meat on the end of a butchers pencil.
I never understand why the people that are over weight never seem to lose it due to the physical demands of the job unless they have an underlining health problem .
Sitting at home eating custard creams and crisps springs to mind but then again who the feck after doing a delivery has any energy to do anythink physical, i dont its an effort just to lift the remote and change channel.

Fat people can be fitter than thin people.

BMI over 25 not a good measure of obesity-that would be most rugby players, body builders etc.

Quite right , BMI is a load of b----cks because it takes no account of a person's muscle to fat ratio.Robocop wrote:BMI over 25 not a good measure of obesity-that would be most rugby players, body builders etc.

BMI is a rough tool granted, but as most posties are not rugby players or body builders it will do.Robocop wrote:BMI over 25 not a good measure of obesity-that would be most rugby players, body builders etc.

Are you eating less healthily now? Or doing less exersise (!)? Why have you put on weight?realitybites wrote:If our bodies have significantly changed from our original well toned physiques (not talking personally obviously) who, or what would have to shoulder the responsibility?
Unless your weight gain is a direct result of stress or depression, I'd say the responsability is ENTIRELY yours. For all its faults, RM do not force you to eat junk food, or anything like that. Not being funny, but if your weight gain is bothering you, then change your eating habits, or go to the gym after work.
Sorry, but except in VERY few cases, obesity is completely the fault of the obese. Can't blame this one on RM!

Or diabetes?DemonPostie wrote:

If you have put weight on, especially around the waist it could be a symptom of diabetes.
It would never hurt to get that checked. But make sure they do a blood sample and not just a urine sample because diabetes (especially type 2 I think) can be hidden by exercise.

Re: Being overweight, are you fit to do your job?
Sure, there are a few medical conditions that can result in weight gain, but my point is that the only way you could try to blame RM for getting heavier is to say the stress is making you eat too much or something similar.clashcityrocker wrote:Or diabetes?DemonPostie wrote:

The vast, VAST majority of chubby folk are because they a) don't exersise enough, or b) eat too many cheeseburgers. That is why only 3% of Japanese people are obese, while 30% of Americans and 24% of Brits are fatties.
