Hayes won't turn up, he will be getting feedback from on here on here how the sellout has went down with the rank and file from his minions on the forum, because they would tell him he would be in for a hostile reception

Whilst all these negotiations have been going on the cwu hierarchy have been getting feed back from div reps, it is these reps who are to blame for allowing ward etc think the deal would be ok.shizsco wrote:Hi can anyone confirm there is a cwu meeting in Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Glasgow today to be attended by Bob Gibson and our illustrious leader Billy Hayes. If it is i think i will go along to see Hayes squirm if he turns up.

Billy was there though he talked about the 1920's. He didn't seem very well.stokes11eg wrote:5/1 Big Billy won't turn up. Remember the march that was to take place a few months ago in West lothian ? And that's when we were backing him.
Bob Gibson was on better form. He will sell this deal to the membership.
But top marks goes to the bloke whose phone went off (playng the opening to Sweet Child of Mine) during the minutes silence for colleagues who died in the past 12 months.

And once again ,he stands BEHIND a second man and lets him take the responsibility and therfore the blame for this shambles. No wonder he didn't look well.Me thinks he's doomed himself, as well as us.

Re: cwu meeting in glasgow today?
My guess is they have done their sums and the fact is some people will be better off with this deal, some will be on about the same and some won't care. Sometimes it is necessary to remember that the little bubble that is RMC isn't necessarily a good reflection of the membership as a whole. Is the D2D issue enough to put people back on the picket line? I doubt it. Maybe for a couple of hundred posters on here but not nationally. D2D into workload is a good thing and it should have been done years ago before people started earning so much from them and started relying on that money.shizsco wrote:how can bob gibson sell the deal to the membership its a lot of pants.

The deal IS quite clearly about keeping the CWU in the workplace and I wouldn't argue with anyone who says too much has been conceded to achieve that. But what protection do you have without the CWU? This deal is clearly looking forward to a time when there isn't a Labour government and obviously the CWU believes it can better protect the members by being in the workplace and not being completely sidelined.
Much as the phrase is hated - this may well be the best deal in the circumstances. Royal Mail is bankrupt because of the pension issue. The letters business is declining, what letters we deliver are earning less due to DSA. The D2D market is one of the few growth areas and it is madness to be turning that business away.
CWU HQ clearly doesn't believe there is the support for a protracted strike. It clearly and rightly doesn't believe the public would support such action. It has managed to wring a few concessions from our employer which is no mean feat in these times. These people have years of experience in the trade union movement. While a few tossers on here can accuse them of corruption etc I think largely the membership trusts them. If the PEC have unanimously endorsed this deal (and I'm not sure if that's the case) then that will speak volumes to the membership. They too will accept it. My guess.

Re: cwu meeting in glasgow today?
clashcity you clearly enjoyed the meeting and believe it to be the best they could get, also you quite openly say it keeps the CWU in the workplace and that is the main thing for you, well bollocks to you and the CWU i now see that was the agenda all along, they were in danger of losing the cushy numbers they have from local level to national and now want to be the gestapo for RM , well i will be losing money and doing extra work for nothing, so if thats thier best maybe they should have piss*d off, as for calling people on here tossers the old saying "pot calling the kettle black"

Re: cwu meeting in glasgow today?
The problem Billy and Co had was that RM was ignoring them and largely introducing change as and when they required - all that has happened is that instead of EA RM style we have EA CWU style - the ideals of a union and its understanding sold for actually less than 30 pieces of silver - mare like we paid 30 pieces of silver for having someone NOT negotiating for us.
Now some would say what is the alternative? Well as everyone knows the alternative is status quo, no D2D agreement means we go back to 3 max a week prepared and delivered in standard duty time, voluntarily. 11,000 vehicles - ace, but there is no agreement to man them or do park and loop - if you want to do it fine, if you don't then don't and go to disagreement.
Without this agreement we will be no worse off than before it, quite simply.

im in the same office as shizsco and he is correct our office is going off it's head about this dodgy deal and what use is the union in the workplace if they don't have the backbone to to stand up to royal mail management, the membership had to drag the union kicking and screaming to commit to a national ballot which turned out a 76% yes vote with a 65% turnout only for the union yet again to bottle it from a position of strength with a massive backlog of mail to deal with
