I'm pretty sure that is what is on my signing on sheet. Is not the existing Pouch Weight Matrix along the lines of 1st bag 16Kg, second bag 12 kg, 3rd bag 10kg, 4th and subsequent bags 8kg? (May have the figures slightly wrong)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: weighing bags
The original Pouch Weight Matrix which was introduced via SDD (Single Daily Delivery) had the 1st & 2nd pouches at 16kg, 3rd was 12kg, 4th & 5th were 10kg and 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th pouches were all 8kg.POSTMAN wrote:I'm pretty sure that is what is on my signing on sheet. Is not the existing Pouch Weight Matrix along the lines of 1st bag 16Kg, second bag 12 kg, 3rd bag 10kg, 4th and subsequent bags 8kg? That's it BM cheers, but i could never understand '1st & 2nd pouches at 16kg, 3rd was 12kg' when drivers weight limit to pouch was 11kg!!brothermagrew wrote:The original Pouch Weight Matrix which was introduced via SDD (Single Daily Delivery) had the 1st & 2nd pouches at 16kg, 3rd was 12kg, 4th & 5th were 10kg and 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th pouches were all 8kg.POSTMAN wrote:I'm pretty sure that is what is on my signing on sheet. Is not the existing Pouch Weight Matrix along the lines of 1st bag 16Kg, second bag 12 kg, 3rd bag 10kg, 4th and subsequent bags 8kg? Re: weighing bags
Our signing in sheet already has the new weight limits on them, even though it's not officially come in yet. It clearly states next to the first bag 16kg and then every subsequent bag column says 11kg max next to them so it must be on the way. New smaller bags too apparently.

Re: weighing bags
We have weighed all our bags every day using the slidding scale of 16 16 14 12 10 8 8 8 and so on. we have now been told that we no longer have to weigh any of our bags and the manager will pick two deliveries and weigh the bag on those deliveries. so no we do not weigh any of our bags makes no sense.

Re: weighing bags
I've never heard of management ever weighing and checking bags? We dont even have any scales in our office, we keep asking and they keep saying "Yes they've been ordered". Thats gone on for years now. They know that if we started to actually weigh our bags no round would ever be completed, we wouldnt have enough bag drops (or bags) around the village for all the extra bags we would need. The less our management pay attention to this matter the better for them it is.

Re: weighing bags
this sounds a breach of health and safety regulations, id check with a union rep. Although the part where they say "you no longer *have* to" is probably leaving it up to you whether you do it or not rather than them saying "dont weigh your bags"postiereg wrote:We have weighed all our bags every day using the slidding scale of 16 16 14 12 10 8 8 8 and so on. we have now been told that we no longer have to weigh any of our bags and the manager will pick two deliveries and weigh the bag on those deliveries. so no we do not weigh any of our bags makes no sense.
I think the RM "official" scale is 16kg then 11kg for the rest where the union have the 16 16 14 12 etc
personally I prefer the RM scale, for one its easier to remember and in the main its lighter to carry overall. Also keep in mind that these are MAXIMUM weights they are not mandatory. I usually take 13kg 1st bag then up to 11kg for the others.

If as you suggest the Royal Mail 'official' scale is 16kg then 11kg for the rest then pray tell how this equates or ties in with the statement:kanuuuuuu wrote:this sounds a breach of health and safety regulations, id check with a union rep. Until then Royal Mail HQ will instruct local managers to make no variance from the existing Pouch Weight Matrix until a new SSOW has been approved and HSE consulted. Royal Mail has asked me to advise Area Safety Representatives of this position.

Re: weighing bags
It's for your own good. Over time, carrying heavy bags will have a negative effect on your body. In the short term, if you have an accident carrying an overweight bag, you'll get no sympathy from Royal Mail. Personally, if I fell down some steps and broke my neck, I'd want full pay whilst off, and substantial compensation. I'd not get that if it was my tenth bag and they weighed it and found it to be 13Kg.postiereg wrote:We have weighed all our bags every day using the slidding scale of 16 16 14 12 10 8 8 8 and so on. we have now been told that we no longer have to weigh any of our bags and the manager will pick two deliveries and weigh the bag on those deliveries. so no we do not weigh any of our bags makes no sense.
You can say that again.postiereg wrote: makes no sense.

Re: weighing bags
Must be honest, I haven't read all the posts about bag weights because i can't be bothered.
In our office they shout out every morning that you have to weight your bags.
For the past two weeks i have put my weights down as 20 kg per bag and have yet to be "pulled" for it. What does this say ? As per usual management don't really give a s**t as long as the mail leaves the office.
They don't even look at the figures ! It the normal RM shite !

Re: weighing bags
Blinking flip don't do that! If you have an accident, they'll check your bag weights, which you have signed for, and tell you it was your own fault for carrying overweight bags. You'd get no compensation, probably no pay while of sick.Urban Smith wrote: For the past two weeks i have put my weights down as 20 kg per bag

Re: weighing bags
What if your first bag includes 10 blocks of flats each with 2 flights of stairs????
