I say, according to my 318 I do an hours sort and then prep my own round. He say's, 'as required'. So basically, the 318's are a waste of time as the manager can over rule them when he see's fit?

Yes or no?
As far as i see they can make you sort for two or even three hours, but then the time has to come from somewhere else,ie your walk So if you go over your time just explain to your lino why.....For the eight hours you are at work you are thiers , theirs i say , all theirs ha ha ha ha :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad
I married my wife for her looks, but not the one she gave me when i said i was going to be a postman.

Yep.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

318's stopped being the law in our place years ago  You just work as required now but if your held too long on the ips then you cut off on your finish time.

I had a barney with a manager a few years ago and told him to"check my 318" he got it out and at the bottom it said"or otherwise instructed by a manager"you may aswell wipe your dirtbox with it.

krussel is right i would be quite happy to stop on sorting for as long as they like, while i'm sorting i'm not delivering, don't let them get to you,be nice and smiley & agreeable (managers can't handle that, they prefer confrontation) then just cut off fail the mail your DOM will soon let you off sorting.

318....318....318?
Hmm I seem to remember those.....Can't say I've seen one in the longest time.
I DID have one in a red file on top of my frame, it has been absent for years.

To be honest the 318 and what your job duty entails, is a waste of time as managment will move the goalposts and come up with new stuff for you to do whenever they feel like it, especialy when the s**t hits the fan and someone phones in sick.
