Between Conferences, the union's National Executive Council (NEC) is responsible for policy decisions. The NEC is elected each year by individual postal ballot. Its division into five constituencies ensures that all industrial and occupational backgrounds have a voice. The constituencies are clerical, engineering, operator and ancillary, postal and postal technical services.
The NEC deals with all issues of a general nature, such as organisation, recruitment, finances and services. For occupational issues, it divides into two industrial executives, one for telecoms and financial services, and the other for postal issues.

Re: PEC
quite an offensive post there godric - what a sweeping statement. Do you know any of them personally?
Well i have news for you - I do, and I find your post out of order. I voted for the PEC, I trust the PEC, and i will be guided by them. I'm not an idiot, I'm a rep that puts my trust and faith in the democratic system that we live by. Behave yourself.

I have a PEC mbr from my branch, decent human being and at the end of the day he or she is not imposing anything on me and are enabling me to have my say. My views on whatever the agreement is will not shape my views on the PEC as human beings

Re: PEC
I agree we should all not call any members of the union or posters on this site but if the deal is not a good one for all who are members of the CWU we all should be allowed to say so and indeed i will for i must make my views known not just on here but to my fellow workers in my workplace and we all owe it to ourselves to be truthful about this deal!.Big Daz wrote:I have a PEC mbr from my branch, decent human being and at the end of the day he or she is not imposing anything on me and are enabling me to have my say. Re: PEC
Negative comments need to be from CWU mbrs about CWU work policy carried out by CWU officals. Not being satisfied with their work does not make them big evil monsters.
Perhaps there is no recomendation and its a simple case of this is what we have after 4 months, now its your turn to decide the next steps via a ballot. That would perfectley reasonable. If we say no, then Dave and the PEC have a mandate to get a better deal.
We are now at the stage were Dave and the PEC need a madate from the membership before they can do anything else one way or the other.

If there has been a recommendation then the members are entitled to know exactly who voted for what.
That is the very least an open and honest democratic union owes it's membership.

Re: PEC
Sounds fair to me, especially with PEC elections coming up. Normally a small surplus of nominees compared to PEC places, soI wonder what those seeking election but are not current PEC bods will have to say as their election pitch

I do believe we have 1 or 2 members of the PEC on here tonight so maybe a loose word or two may come out.

Re: PEC
We should take a moment to reflect on the structure of our union here. Billy is in his second 5 year term unoppossed, Dave is in his second 5 year term, unoppossed this time round after beating Keggie first time round. The Executive, after wholesale change following the Way Forward, have, by and large, been re-elected year on year by a pathetically low percentage of the membership. We can't blame anybody else but ourselves, as the 85-90% of people who simply can't be arsed to vote, actually have more of a say than any other group.

Re: PEC
I understand your point about low turnout but as in politics in general it is up to the parties or in this case the leadership to engage the grassroots membership.lardyboy wrote:We should take a moment to reflect on the structure of our union here. Unless of course voter apathy suits them.
