A PETERSFIELD postman who has been delivering the mail for 36 years was given a surprise coffee break on his final round last Saturday.
Mick Lee, of Test Close, whose round includes Buriton, Nursted and Ditcham, was given a warm send-off from a gathering of friends and family before retiring.
A group of grateful customers from Buriton gathered at the Tithe Barn offices, near Ditcham, to give him an early morning surprise.
Daniela Jones of Buriton Village Association made a cake in the shape of an envelope complete with First Class stamp, while Margaret and Jeremy Oates of the Tithe Barn laid on coffee and presented Mick, who has enjoyed friendly relations with many people on his round, with a print of an old sorting office.
Mick's wife Jill was in on the secret and was waiting at Tithe Barn for the surprise party.
Piers Burton-Page, of North Lane, Buriton, said: "Mick has made a big contribution to village life.
"He has always been warm and friendly and helpful beyond his duties and all of us in Buriton will miss his cheerful laughter and good spirits - even when the weather was at its worst."
