Expelling Members Who Strike???

Post by Macca »

Is it possible to combine rule 4 with rule 14 to expel those members who crossed the picket line and worked the official strike days.

Rule 4: Members Entitlements and Obligations....

2. Members are obliged to:

1. treat Union staff, officials and members with respect and courtesy;

2. support and promote the Union's objectives;

3. promote the CWU's role in the workplace;

4. take an active part in the Union's decision making processes;

5. respect the Union's democratic processes and decisions;

6. inform the Union of changes to their membership details;

7. ensure their Union subscriptions are kept up to date.

Rule 14: Discipline.

2. A member shall be liable to disciplinary action in respect of the following:

a) Acting in breach of the Rules of the Union;

(a)b) Behaving in a manner contrary to the interests of the Union;

c) Failing to carry out the lawful and reasonable instructions of a Branch, the National Executive Council, Annual or Special Conference;

My thinking is first and foremost those despicable low-lifes who broke the strike and abused members on the picket lines :no no , several posts have reported this, i would like to think this could be applied to any member who broke the strike, i know their gonna bleet on about their freedom of choice, which by the way they had when we were balloted, and god knows the amount of times a result went against my vote, the way forward springs to mind, but i've had to comply with the wishes of the majority!! (1500 and a lot of missing ballot papers :no no )

Your views are much appreciated in this matter, and especially if someone could put reasons why it can or cannot be used, that woudl be very helpful..thankyou

Where do the union stand on the matter of a picketting member sending offensive text messages to a non striking postman ?

We all know about not abusing the striking members, but what if it's the other way round ?

I know of such a thing happening. Thats why i'm asking ?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Dont let all the posts rattle your cage mate... It happends Just as Free speech happends as well.... I think your points are valid and should be taken up in Union confrence ... Rule 4 And 14 should be adheard to and forced.... It ensures a "for the betterment of the union " prevails in the long term, Then it may be seen as stopping free will?? BUT as everybody has a vote and a choice then as we all know it is democratic and then fair for ALL....

The fact the CWU has chucked out BNP supporters IS ANOTHER POINT!!! If this is agreed buy all then ok but this is another thing of FREE SPEECH AND WHERE IT STARTS N ENDS????????

In my opinion strike breakers SHOULD BE ASKED AT FIRST TO RESIGN FROM THE CWU AND IF THEY DONT.... THEN TOLD OF THE RULES 4 AND 14... Then if they still dont resign... Then the powers of the union rules should be upheld......

Hope this surfices as a answer to your questions Macca?????

If you get abuse either way then you can go down the B&H line with RM.

If your in the union then again you should be able to pursue it through the union in either case. Even if you did cross a picket line otherwise its discrimination.

I`ve seen flyers stating that union members that cross picket line should resign as 'we don`t need you or your money'. It also states that failing this cwu won`t hesitate to use rule 14 as necessary. Let`s hope so...

Cheers fella for that, I agree whole heartedly with what you have said regarding those who cross the picket line, to be asked to resign etc, and I agree totally with your sentiments regarding the BNP members, I for one am not a supporter but everyone has an opinion and a so-called freedom to express it, look at some of the radical muslim clerics in this country (although not supported by all muslims) and the things they say and what they support, are their followers any different?? Sometimes I do get annoyed with the CWU leaders supporting things that I do not or did not agree to support, they should look after the members first and foremost, anyways thats my rant on that for now, and theres me banging on about taking my post off-route lol :funneh

I think I need to get in touch with someone at headquarters for full clarification on this.

Macca.. I think we all DESERVE./DEMAND OUR OWN FREE SPEECH... But if it is detrimental or degrading and not taking the good of the majority in to account then its not a democratic vote or view... The CWU MUST ONLY ADHERE TO DEMOCRATIC RULES WITHIN THE UNION.... Now lets just say they aint always done this in my opinion.... :no no :no no :no no If anyone dont agree with me just say so.(as in no doubt ppl will)? I welcome debate and free will/speech but wont stand for anyone to gag or stop me when ive shown them the rights i demand for myself.... Thats all i feel is right!!!!

FECK BIG AL N lil adam.... Thats all i know...... :crazy: :crazy: :crazy: :crazy:
