Re: get this deal to the membership now !!
Sounds like a rule change is needed to me, there is no deal untill the PEC say so. They have the power if they so wish to use it to tell Wardy and his tream to take the deal back to RM and try again untill something better is agreed. The process of getting a deal to put to the mbrs is noy yet over.

Re: get this deal to the membership now !!
ive always been told we the blue shirts are the union . so why dont we try to get a mon-fri contract and let saturdays be overtime or put iut to part timers to bump there earnings up that way everyone is happy. how do we get a message to dave ward and billy hayes to suggest this. in the past the union kept saying we cant go mon-fri as loads of jobs would go well thousands of jobs are now going so surely let our members decide . the ones that want to do mon-fri can and the ones that want to come in on a saturday can pick up extra work and money . any comments on this idea lads and lasses

Lets not agree to any tosh presented to us.
I've been a union member in various jobs since I started work in the1960s. Let me tell you, this CWU lot are hopeless. They are so out of touch with the postman on the street believe me. They come up with what is laughingly called an agreement, but its always so wooly and disguised with waffle. We need a National agreement, not local agreements. That way we are all singing from the same hymn sheet. Who remembers the agreement with RM bosses that Saturdays would be held back as an easy day and that all Mailsort could be left for the Monday delivery? Wel I dont know about you, but my in office Saturday is one of the busiest, not least because of the fact that there isnt any mailsort anymore, its all S mail etc, and that all has to be delivered. Also, the CWU agrees with RM that mail levels have declined. This is absolute rubbish. Royal Mail mailsort and Royal Mail letters may have decreased, but every other mail suppliers has vastly increased. This is borne out by the fact that 10 years ago when I started with RM i would deliver 3 or 4 bags on heavy days, now its 7 to 9 bags, and no it isn't all packets. Also what about RM suggesting that we plan our delivery routes to keep out of the burning sun! If we are gonna be starting later what now of their planning routes? I could go on and on, and believe me I will return. Just remember when you vote on this agreement -if we ever get to see it- when we are struggling round on a Saturday at 3 o clock in the afternoon, doing 3 rounds out of a van with a trolley, think of our 2 glorious leaders Billy and Davey boy, feet up watching the footy with Jeff Stelling. I bet they havent been up at 5 oclock or worked on Saturdays since they were Paper boys. Think on, when you vote. Don't be swayed by a measly short term financial carrot PLEASE THINK.

No decline at my D.O except Summer lull last year was more of a lull than the previous summer.
The % of letters that are walksorted are higher than a few years ago at my D.O but no actula decline in the overall amount!!

getting rid of saturday deliveries would wipe out 1/6 of the delivery workforce ( basically all the subs as they wouldn't be needed to cover the day off)rangersboy wrote:ive always been told we the blue shirts are the union . so why dont we try to get a mon-fri contract and let saturdays be overtime or put iut to part timers to bump there earnings up that way everyone is happy. how do we get a message to dave ward and billy hayes to suggest this. in the past the union kept saying we cant go mon-fri as loads of jobs would go well thousands of jobs are now going so surely let our members decide . the ones that want to do mon-fri can and the ones that want to come in on a saturday can pick up extra work and money . any comments on this idea lads and lasses
fine and dandy if you are not one of that 1/6
we need to be protecting as many jobs as we can not handing them cuts like this on a plate
if you don't want to work saturdays get another job - that may sound harsh but you knew saturdays were a working day when you applied for the job - I couldn't swallow sacrificing that many jobs for a lay in on a sat

Re: get this deal to the membership now !!
ok short answer
if you don't like it then leave ( i am truly not trying to be funny here)
things change it is the way of the world
when I started as an a/g I started at 5 and finished at 9.30 6 days a week - had time to get home and swap with my other half without any childcare costs
that changed we had to deal with it - those that couldn't left
personally i'm sick to death with people moaning about not being able to go to the footie on a sat cos they might have to work till 3
try paying childcare costs in the school holidays and you may just find you couldn't even afford a season ticket
there are bigger issues than missing the footie and all that

Well yes you would lose jobs , losing Sats, but RM want jobs cuts. It is better to loose jobs and get something back , like no Saturday, than get nothing at all. as was said on another thread."" getting rid of saturday deliveries would wipe out 1/6 of the delivery workforce

I knew Sats were part of the Job when I started, but I finished by 8.30AM on Saturdays , not 12PM or later

8.30!!!!!
feck me
even in my a/g days I never finished as early as that
so you would happily see 1/6 of your workmates out of a job so you get a long weekend???

No I never said that , I was repeating what I read on another thread. About RM wanting job cuts etc etc . Losing1 in 6 , would be around 20,000, we have lost more than that already, with more to come. No loss of jobs is good , but RM will do what they want do , we all know that .
8.30 on Sat was the norm for a town round even into the late 90`s in the differant office i`ve been in

Re: get this deal to the membership now !!
ok thanks for clarifying
and i have obviously been in the wrong flippin office for my RM career
it makes me mad when people bandy about mon-fri working with no thought on the huge job losses it would mean - not to mention the USO the ONLY thing we have that separates us from the chaff
but to get back on topic then yes we need to see this agreement asap if only to stop the rumours

Better to lose saturdays and keep 5/6 workforce rather than RM go bust and there are no jobs at all.
