Special treatment

Post by door_to_bin »

Hi all,

I used to stalk the old postman chat forum but that has ceased to exist (possible management interference!)

I feel I am being targeted by managers because of 2 incidents in the past week

On the 21st Feb we got a bulk delivery of NHS which we were told by the line manager that morning that we had 3 days to deliver.
I have my own cover duty which I picked a few weeks ago when it became available. Anyway, the walk I covered on the 21st was mine to do again on the 23rd (long weekend.) I split the bullk into 3 even piles and threw in where I was going anyway. No questions asked. I came in on the monday and all the bulk had been thrown in on the saturday after Id gone by drivers who were told to throw other walks bulks in, then they can finish! We had quite bad snow on the monday and being a 9:15 starter I saw posties leaving at about 8:45 on my way to work as theyd been let out early as we had no missort run that day. Any who, I came in, walk all ready, and proceeded to take out half of the bulk as I would have had issues completing after my finish time. I didnt tell my manager I did this (he isnt in on mondays) and I went out on delivery. I came in on the tuesday and was called into the office by my line manager. He asked why did I take out the bulk when it had all been thrown in on the saturday? I said he said we had 3 days for it, at which point he started to take an aggresive tone with me and my leering dom who was sat down on his laptop was intimidating me with his looks too. I went to get a representitive in the office with me and they seemed to lower there tone with me. There argument was that I shouldnt have taken mail that had already been thrown in out for the postie on the tuesday to do again, to be fair i wasnt grassed, they spotted it and pulled me in. I got a slap on the wrists and went about my business. Another postie came up to me and said hed done exactly the same thing and wasnt called in the office over it and he is willing to back me up on this should I decide to take it up the bullying route.

Also, on the 24th of feb i was on a trolley duty that just delivers to firms. I had gone outside the office to deliver to 2 firms accross the road but had left my trolley unsecured behind the Royal Mail sign outside our office. I went to the first firm, checked trolley, still there. Went to the second firm round the corner and within the space of 8 seconds, my trolly had disappeared! I ran up and down the street to see if it had gone either way, it had not. I ran back into the office and lo and behold there it was on IPS with my 2 managers sat with it. Now for the trolley to have got from the sign to IPS, it must have travelled at some speed to have got there that fast with them both looking calm and collected. My line manager told me to go on delivery and he'd have a word when I got back. I got back to the office and went in for a word with my dom (since my line manager was of away for 10 day, my dom decided to take the case up.) Now a cwu rep was in the office for whom id never seen before (he was in for another postie they were trying to finish on medical grounds.) So he represented me. I going to mark out key point in the fact finding as to not confuse you all anymore!

1. It was a fact finding meeting but no notes were made by my DOM
2. He said it was gross misconduct but said he could have suspended me but hasnt
3. Made a point that theres a culture in Royal Mail where its workers have an obsession with finishing ealry (because I didnt deliver the 2 firms from the office without my trolley?)
4. I had attended a mail integrity meeting at work time learning the week before. Fair enough
5. MY dom said my line manager saw a postman in the vicinity wearing an orange storm jacket going round a corner. (me)

Now what transpired 2 days later really puzzles me and questions the morlaity of the idiots who run our office.
A postie was being 'driven' around a duty for him to learn it and it was my DOM that saw my trolley outside to which he stopped the car and said to the postie "Watch me s**t him up" ie ME. To which he got out of the car and nicked my trolley. A manager saying this about me. I dont get it, are they out for me? Im only 25 hours contract but they seem to want rid of me. Ill stress it again "WATCH ME s**t HIM UP" RUNS WITH TROLLEY INTO THE OFFICE

Whats my best course of action to take?

As above complain also put in a grievance get a written statement off the postie that was in the car when your DIM made the alleged remark make your rep aware of whats happening ,document everythink now that is fresh in your mind.

To be frank you can not leave a trolley un-attended so dont do that again but that doesnt excuse your DIMS behaviour secondly you can not make a decision on what your taken out on delivery you have to seek a reasonable instruction from your DIM why because it covers your arse and makes the reps job simpler if an issue is made over what you have left in your frame.

Good luck anyway and dont be bullied or intimadated by them...

 Shocking but all too common nowadays, complain loudly ,and if possible, make sure word gets back to the manager in question that you are aware of what he said to the postie about sh--- you up. Good Luck.

Thanks for the replys guys. Im going to ask for a meeting tomorrow with my DOM and rep. Make sure of all the points. And make him aware I am taking it down the harrassment route. Only problem is the guy who heard my line manager say "sh*t him up" is on leave for a week. is there any possibility they could ring him and blackmail him some how? I wouldnt put it past them and i feel his word would seriously help my case.

thanks again

I think Postman Chat forum ran out of money and not for the first time.

Leave putting in your grieveance until the postie is back off leave or find out his phone number and give him a bell

Spoken to the other postie, says hes gonna give me his backing on what the manager said. spoke to a rep at branch who is sorting something out for me tomorrow. ive plenty of ammunition now from other incidents, even the tiniest one on my birthday about writing the wrong time down when i signed in (because my watch is 5 minutes fast) was called into the office over this just before new year.

will let you know what happens

cheers

Actually having the signing on sheets filled in would be a start, too many OPG's dont bother at my D.O and its not going to improve untill action is taken.
