"I know for a fact that letters sometimes get caught up in the machines and can sometimes get ripped open "
Precisely, especially as so many cheap cards are now sold with envelopes made of paper not much stronger than bog roll.

it would be the only way to catch em.

Only if someone is under Suspicion.
They do test letters as well both local and national.

Local ones have a card inside that is returned by the receiver so that the Management know they have received it. The national ones are changing because of the "Scottish Incidents" which dragged in various other areas, but they used to RFID ones that could be tracked minute by minute through the system, as far as I know they are still being done and the system will be more secure and less likely to be affected by any unscrupulous bonus hunting management/posties.

I thought you said RFID :hmmmm In most (if not all) offices there are scanners above the doors to scan these chips in and out of offices (and presumably the destination).

This is what happens when you put crap on programs like eastenders showing the good olde postie opening birthday cards and stealing. Remember the posters and adverts for C4 showing the opened cards. Makes us all look bad :evil/mad
