Saturdays are a working day whether we like it or not.
Yeah but they know all that when they apply and accept those jobs.
We are being rail roaded into it. Massive difference.

Exactly. If it aint broke then dont fix it.
Lets face it how many bods want thier water bills or virgin media shite coming through their front doors while they are watching final score on a saturday eh??
If you work behind a counter in a shop/supermarket or you are in the fire service or any other emergency service or work in hotel and catering to name a few then granted you are expected to work saturdays but we are postmen and women, we chose to become one as we knew what was expected from the job when applying. We started early to finish early but these muppets would have us working sundays if they could.

Your sister will have been aware of cotractual conditions when she took her job on. I started working for rm over 22 years ago and have always worked a shorter Saturday.
Could someone please explain to me how us all working a couple of hours longer on a Saturday is all of a sudden going to turn RM finances around?

However I do believe it is correct to state the following.
Royal Mail Finances - We can all have a go at criticising the company for its past failures and I have done so on countless occasions. But the facts are if Royal Mail was a private company it would be insolvent. Yes we can shout thats down to the pension crisis , unfair competition etc. However those are the cards which the employer has to deal with at this moment.
What's your game then? Why are you so keen to sell the deal? You preface your latest insights with this age old bosses mantra 'look we're skint ,sorry it's the best we can do, take it or leave it'.However when they make statements that are not true that is no longer an opinion
Have you swallowed all the management propaganda or do you intend to mislead and bump people into accepting a poor deal?
The fact is RM is not a private company ,and no private company would comply with the USO as it stands.
The fact is RM is not cash flow insolvent it is making a profit.
If you are claiming that RM is balance sheet insolvent because of the great pension robbery then it might have been less misleading if you had informed site members that almost every major company operates in a permanent state of balance sheet insolvency.
So there's the cards on the table and not the ones the employer dealt from the bottom of the pack.
Bye

Re: Wait for the agreement
On a serious note though.....
I have no problem with D2D into workload provided there are plans for them to be ready prepped. If one guy delivers 300 up long drives whilst another delivers 600 to little terraces and they take the same time, what's the problem with them being paid the same???? (provided they are ready prepped of course)
Longer saturdays are a difficult one. I understand why some people feel strongly about this, but there is no way this issue cannot be tackled with sequencing coming soon. All I can say is that as long as the rewards are good and Royal mail minimise the impact as much as possible so that most people only work only a small amount of time longer, plus we get more saturdays off then surely this has to be a case of losing a penny and finding a tuppence.

Re: Wait for the agreement
Your sister knew what she was getting into - it's not something that is now being imposed - we used to finish at 9.30 on Saturday now it's more likely to be 3 pm - and you may have noticed in the courier the callers office will be open to 8 pm Wednesdays and 2 pm Saturdays ......................that's before the agreement - no wonder the union was calling for more work for the callers office - I'd like to see one of those people manning that place for a few days.OnAFlyer wrote:We haven't got a leg to stand on when it comes to Saturdays.
