Had to laugh earlier. One fella who comes in about an hour early every day had his round bagged up and ready to go by about 20 past 8, just had to wait for the missort run. Usually get about 15 letters on that at the most.

This morning drive came back with a few yorks, including several trays of flats and mech bundles for the early worm. :left:

Some people never learn.

get this one. a lovely fella i know, lets call him KOK, found that due to unforseen circumstances a bag of mail had not been delivered the day before. KOK used his own car to go fetch aforesaid bag himself, drove back to the DO with it, carried it in, threw it off and delivered it all...........for free!...........without booking! .................... when i found out i was tempted to punch him very hard to try and knock some sense into him but he's clearly beyond help......... :arrrghhh KOK by name...........

Another 'colleague' of mine comes in every day at 0655 (official start time 0736) and starts work, throwing off d2d etc and prepping what is quite a heavy walk. Sits on his bench 'taking his meal relief' and comes back after his finish time (1406) in his own car with his D/L P739 packets.....When I cover his walk, the management can't understand why I cut off! Could it be I come in on time, take my relief and don't use my own transport??? DURR! :arrrghhh

When are these people going to realise they are putting jobs at risk including their own?

Last week I was put on a duty that a large portion of it didnt have a frame since it was a newly built estate.

Im part time so it should not be my job to have to come into big bundles of mail and sit sorting it into Random street/drive/crescent/road then odds and evens then do the same again for the other streets then do the flats the 0's the 1's the 2's and the 3's then order it 0/1 0/2 0/3 etc etc

I went in at my time and so was the last postie in the office, all the drivers were long gone and im in there looking like a daftie having to do that crap

One day another part timer who used to do it said to me 'why are you takin ages to get out - ye just have to come in an hour early'

Thats when I snapped.

'Your taking the same amount of time though! No wonder theres no frame for this when dafties like you are coming in an hour early working for free and making it look like it HAS a frame! Why wid the managers get up off their arses and do something about it when people are coming in and doing the hard work for them?!'

'it gets it out the road but so ye dont have to worry'

'well until you make it a problem it will always be like that! I want to be on it in a few months and not HAVE to f**k around with mail without a frame!'

Sure enough, I made it a problem. Because the DOM had to take me and do my drop bags or phone a taxi it WAS a problem! Thats when he said he'd have to get something done!
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

good on you acca, the only way to highlight the problem is to do exactly what you are doing, I never get in early I wont work for free, people who get in an hour early actually make me feel sick and i dont think they can be all there in the head .

Generalising a bit aren't you. Everyone is different and if people want to come in early that's fine as long as management don't use it as a way of harassing people covering the duty when they are off. But guess what Management do, just look at posts on here that mention it.

At one office I know the DOM when he was introducing absorption was asked "What about those that come in early" his reply.

"I don't care they can come in early if they want, but I still expect them to work till their finish time - if they want to do unpaid overtime that's their choice I would be stupid to stop them. Also anyone going early will be conduct coded". Now that may not happen at your office at the moment and good for you, but it is coming to every office eventually regardless of function.

I have to travel 35-40 miles into my office(depends which way I go in/get fuel) and I normally get in about 10 mins before I start.Coffee break straight off....BUT one morning I had to take my son to the airport(Gatwick) and because my office is nearer the airport than home, I thought I might as well go in to work, albeit a hour early. At least I could sit around reading a paper and have numerous coffee.I was surprised that there were at least 10 people in and going by a tray of mech takes 10 mins or so to throw up,they had been in since 4.30.WTF.These people are doing this day in day out. They are getting into the office before Ive even got up???????? They can only go out once the mis-sorts have come in and due to that, they go out roughly the same time as me.What is the point?

do you know what amazes me? there are 7 pages of posts on this topic, numerous office arguments, we are all know at least half a dozen suspects and yet..........it goes on happening. these people will never ever learn until they (and we) lose our bloody jobs and then it will be too late. we need firm and direct action from the union now! we need reps cruising the aisles an hour before work starts and during meal relief to nail these suckers but all we get are excuses and fob offs. do your bit - knobble a knob today and enlighten the fools :no no

What difference will that make? The same people who sign in an hour early now will clock in an hour early.

No you misunderstood.Fine if they clock in a hour early, but having to clock out on time.....I know if that happened, and I dont come in early to start,I wouldnt want to waste an hour of my time and then waste another hour coz ive finished early and get lumbered with an extra bit of a duty or sorting.Ive worked at a place with clock cards and a i.d swipe card(wonder if thats why the i.d cards came in?)and you rarely got people starting before their time.Yes you got people coming in 30 mins or so early, but apart from the apprentices no-one started until their time. Also and Im not a manager by the way,it would stop the piss takers who come in late every day and get away with it.We have one person(brown nose par excellance) who gets in a hour late everyday, sod all is said and goes home well before his time as he really does run.And I mean run.Another persons car broke down,he was late,1st time ever for him and he gets the usual "anymore lateness and we will have to have councilling etc" talk.
