Fulham Nurse in Post Office Mix-Up

A Fulham nurse has been credit blacklisted after bungling posties sent her letters to the wrong address for several months.

Jennifer Butler, of Cedar House, Imperial Wharf, alerted local Post Office bosses to the mistake in September last year but deliveries continued to be misdirected to an address at Cedar Lodge in another part of the borough.

It meant she missed a court summons for a minor insurance claim against her and was subsequently handed a £300 fine and County Court Judgement (CCJ) in her absence.

The ruling has marred her credit rating as she tries to secure a mortgage and has caused considerable stress.

"I couldn't contest the case as I hadn't received the letters. Now there's no way to get rid of the CCJ," she says.

"I need it to be erased to borrow for a mortgage and have explained to the courts and my bank what happened with my post. They understand but still it takes time to get rid of a CCJ."

Ms Butler is now calling on the Post Office to pay her compensation for the court fines and the black mark on her credit file.

Royal mail says it does not compensate for lost mail in these case but is considering making a goodwill payment after the mix-up.

"I wonder how many other people this is happening to?" she adds. "I told the Fulham delivery office several times about the problems, but still my letters went missing. The Post Office doesn't realise what the impact can be on someone's life if they do not receive their letters. This has caused me a great deal of stress."

A Royal Mail spokesperson said:"Our Customer Services have liaised at length with the Fulham Delivery Office manager and he will be monitoring the preparation and sorting of the delivery round before it leaves the office which should serve to ensure there are no further problems."

I thought the court letter would have come recorded and if it was the wrong addresse then no one would have signed for it proving she never received it.
