If i was treated unfairly weather i was pt or ft id do my job properly and cut off everyday untill they start treating me better. Theres no divide at my office most of us have a good laugh with the part timers, i do agree the managers try it on a lot more with part timers but thats because they know they can get away with it.
Why are the managers getting away with it then, does the 'good laugh' still carry on when someone is being shafted then?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

On your own or with all of us but first consider the consequences you could be sacked who will represent you who will pay your legal cost's who will you turn to if you are accused of something you did not do after you returned to work?. That is why most of us are in the union not just for ourselves but for each and everyone of us all!.

El... i must agree with you on 1 of your points i had my floater on my walk a few years ago and the c*nt would only do Flat's A and B in a close, lazy bastard wouldn't even go up a flight of stairs or two. He was even doing this on other Walks within our group... And the manager done hee-haw about it at the time. Some time later he got what was coming to him he got the bullet which was long over-due.. Shame though as the next floater was taking mail away and burning it... lol Only RM can employ any A*SEHOLE who would probably even struggle to go sign on..

Part time staff do get treated a lot worse, 75% of them would love to have a full time contract, work all the hours they can and still get shafted when it comes to holiday payments bonuses etc.. And i also agree with him about the reserves. Never do any d2ds and if they are 'forced' to then there is huge uproar amongst them, they return a lot of the mail that is awkward to deliver, and in my office it is common knowledge they take the killed off mail they have recieved out with them and put then back in a mail box for the duty holder to do, something needs to be done quick time otherwise there will always be a divide with not just part time full time, also full time/reserve staff. This agreement is going to change things, but nothing for the better, well done CWU x
I agree that RM seem to take advantage or PTs ( I've got first hand experience of it ), but AFAIK reserves don't pick duties....they get the duties that need to be covered ( this week, I'm on one duty (8:30 start) Tues, Weds, Fri, on another yesterday and Thursday (5:30 start - which also means a collection is covered...so 6pm finish) and I'm working my day off on Sat, on the first duty, with a 5:30 start )....I'd much rather have one start time during the week, also I'd like to have rotating days off like the duty holder does, but I have to make do with Tuesdays, cos I'm a reserve so I don't get that luxury. When I cover a duty, I have to do D2Ds, I'm usually on a duty for most of the week, so if I bring back awkward items, it'll be waiting for me tomorrow, and if I don't kill off dead mail, it's going to build up

If you have a problem with kill offs and D2Ds not being done, tell your manager that you have a problem & that you expect him to sort it ( otherwise do you expect him to stand around in the morning yapping away & drinking coffee, while leaning against a york? Get him to earn his money just as much as you do! ). If he fails to do this ( which is part of his duty ) speak to your rep & put a grievence in against him.....if you didn't do your job he would code you, so why don't you do the same?

I am a reserve, I am Part Time and I do my door to doors when I am on that duty. I get shafted for holidays like every part timer. I do not return mail that is 'awkward' to deliver unless I cant FIND the addresses if they are all house names. I am not psychic and can only find these oddities if they are pointed out to me. Once again you are judging EVERYONE on YOUR experiences. :no no

I have also probably covered around 40 different deliveries last year. Anyone up for that?

The biggest joke here? EL is a fricking reserve as he would probably not have signed for his duty.

So, what do we have here now. PT/FT/RESERVE divide. Sometimes some of you really are making things worse for yourselves.

Oh and a floater is not the same as a reserve in our camp. A floater does the same five deliveries a week, a reserve is the office bitch who gets moved at a moments notice and never know's what they are doing one moment to the next.

I take it that's a half assed apology to most reserves then?

IPS, ease off a bit mate, not everyone feels strong enough or understand they should apologise when they need to

matt3c, you need to learn that most people in RM understand what you are going through, are not happy about it, and are willing to give you the information and ammunition to fight your battles ( like they would with anyone - FT, PT, whatever ) - what they are not going to do is help anyone that comes across as snot nosed, spoilt or angry at the world that does nothing more than shoots their mouth off and doesn't care who they hit.....not having a go, just a word to the wise - if you have a problem, ask a question, and remember that most offices have different phrases for different things ( in Sevenoaks, the town office call SDs "Specials" down the road at the rural office, most people call them "Reggies" )

I'd think the biggest thing i'd ask for is for holiday pay to reflect the actual hours i work as opposed to 22.5 hours

Holiday pay is supposed to be a reward as part of your employment and not a financial burden that is forced on you several times a year.

There are issues in my office between FT/PT staff, some tolerated by managers to keep the majority (FT) happy.

Some of the issues are FT drivers leaving PT staff behind (they leave before we start despite being our designated driver). Managers allow it as they get their lappsing done......but then have to pay OT to those of us who stand up to them.
This is especialy a problem on saturdays.

FT staff not finishing the prep/tie up of PT staff as they are supposed to. Miss sorts are terrible on frames preped by somebody else despite them doing it every day. Now you might argue that there is not time but mail volumes are down at the moment yet this extra time doesnt seem to get any extra work done.

Of course these problems should be sorted by managers but if you keep the FT's happy they are gradually accepting changes in office.

My major gripe was last april duties by section were restructured to absorb new areas and make duties fair. The duties were designed by the FT staff on that section. It was strange that 60 drops minimum were added to all the PT duties while the FT ones absorbed very little, if any.

Again its the managers job to stop this. It is tough to stand up for yourself against both managers and 5 others in your section. The PT staff (union members or not) hear nothing and are not invited to participate in any office decisions.

My office, and it seems el dudes, cant be alone.

I will say, the auther of this thread hasnt helped put his case across because of the tone he uses. His issues I assure you exist yet nobody will stand with him to fight the cause. Its not A FT issue so he is alone.
