that's how the PHGs work, do it by the book & the night shift would finish @ 1030postie28 wrote:seems a lot of people are not in favour of 1 dayers. how about a solid week of working by the book. that is do the job exactly how rm say it should be done. sort to the speed they say we should and and half the mail would never get sorted. make sure you trail over to the scales with every bag. how long would that take. take your allowed break before going on delivery. and make sure you finish dead on time. how much mail would actually get delivered ? the public would then see how badly managed rm really is and it wouldn't cost us a penny.

Re: Work to rule WON'T work!
ITS NOT A WORK TO RULE..... THATS ILLEGALpilot wrote:RM would love us to work to rule as a form of industrial action! Lets not kid ourselves, how long before some egomaniac minded DUM tries to pursue someone through the conduct code for working to rule. You all know this will happen somewhere and in the current industrial climate likely to cause an unofficial walkout in that unit.
RESULT - the unofficial walkout locally would invalidate the whole national ballot and CWUHQ would need to undertake a re-ballot of the entire RM CWU membership. Another possibility which could happen is that the local walkout could quite easily spread to surrounding units and eventually become a national walkout. Whilst this may look attractive to some (and there may be some merit in this approach at a later stage) we all need to realise that this would be our ultimate position and could quite easily force a substantial number of members to cross picket lines. Lets not forget the 1996 dispute (employee agenda) which defeated RM plans for team working, etc. During this dispute a phrase was adopted which is as important today as it was back then, this was "maximum impact to the employer, minimum impact to CWU members pockets". We took 8 odd days industrial action over a 12 week period.
Surely a better approach would be a more imaginative form of industrial action? In Bristol there has been several options discussed at meMbers gate meetings but I believe the most effective option would be to functionalise the dispute (e.g. Take Mail Centres only out on a Thursday, delivery & distribution in. Processing, Delivery & Distribution in on Friday as there would be very little mail processed for delivery to take out, take out Delivery & Distribution on the Saturday where there would be massive mail volumes and the inability for most deliveries to be completed or even undertaken due to the mail volumes and shorter attendance times on that day. The following week, start the same process on the Monday - the effect would be far more problematic to RM and the recovery timescales for them would be vastly increased to what they currently are. This would also follow the phrase of 1996 with a maximum of 1 days pay from our weekly wages).
Lets hope CWUHQ become more imaginative to bring this dispute to swift but successful conclusion.
ITS A 318 THAT ROYAL MAIL AND THE UNION AND HEALTH AND SAFETY AGREE ON IS A PROPER WAY OF WORKING... SO WORK TO YOUR 318.. NO MORE NO LESS...... FOR THE 1000 TIME...

I would work to my 318 if I had one, after a year of working in the callers office I asked for a job description, there was'nt one. Only found out last year about my late shift meal relief, which I had'nt been taking, I assumed my afternoon grace break was my meal relief. Turned out I was owed 60 hours altogether, the LM told me to prove I had'nt taken it, I could'nt!

K66yla...
There Must be a 318 for every duty or how will RM know if they are changing any duty times or practises??? They now dont care if they do this , So they can get you to do anything what they want... But they cant just do this... And i think you should demand your 318 as they must be in place and if it isnt then tell you Union rep that he/she put in a grievence and demand that you all get your 318's and meal relef sorted... Shame about your 60hrs you lost... But as you said.. QUESTION EVERYTHING AND ASSUME NOTHING...
As for the "as required" On a 318 its aload of bollox...... Just carry on with your 318's END OF....

but as soon as I return next week I will see my rep (think there sick of me by now.......lol) Lately we've had a lot more work dumped on us, ie, more British Gas, Surcharges and Internal Mail .......there is'nt enough hours in the day to get it all done, so obviously need a revision.
