Thames Valley Mail Centre Re-Sign

Post by Chris888 »

Regarding the re-sign that is currently taking place in the Thames Valley Mail Centre (Swindon).

I currently work on a Saturday only duty (11am-7pm), and I'm concerned because I've heard rumours that they are trying to change the hours of the weekend duties.

If anyone has any information about this I'd be grateful.

Also, regarding changing your hours, is that right that Royal Mail can change your working hours? Is there any limit to how much they can change your hours, or does it have to be within a certain limit?

Also, does Royal Mail have the right to increase your hours if they want to? E.g. from 8 hours to 10?

Currently taking place? That's news to me, last I heard was that it was anything from April to next January. I'll ask Number 3 tonight if they've been to him yet. Either number 1 or 2 are on weekends so you might know who they are.

Given that the MCM is looking for cut something like 80-odd people very shortly I would imagine a re-sign waiting till after the dust on that has settled and they've seen what hasn't turned into a major disaster zone*. Asking the weekend manager what he's heard is probably the easiest way to find out, most managers haven't been told *anything* yet and are starting to get a bit irate about it. I'll try and put the question to the Saturday night manager tonight if the chance occurrs.

I would imagine the chances of your 8 hours becoming 10 are non-existant. Although given that it seems to be us who go in on overtime that keep the place ticking over you never know.

*like the return of the Mailsort from Unit 2 with everyones favourite ex-canteen-staff manager.

OK, thanks.

My line managers had just mentioned for the last few weeks that the re-sign is supposed to be happening soon, and that discussions are taking place about it, and the hours of the weekend duties might change, but they haven't really had any more information than that.

The main thing that is worrying me is if they force us to finish a lot later than 7pm on a Saturday.
