Re: The truth behind the last 48 hours
So that's it really we ARE financing our own deal with the money that is already ours.
The grandfather rights payments which we already get - into the pot. Not new money this but money already accounted for and not everyone gets it only those entitled to it - that same money is now being spread over more recipients
The colleague share which is already ours - into the pot. Again not new money, this should have been set aside because it is money WE HAVE ALREADY WORKED FOR under previous deals and agreements - or at least most of us have again it is being spread over more recipients.
The upshot of this is we older posties are financing the deal.
So - Saturdays, for me personally it isn't an issue, but I cannot see how that one day is so important it will ruin the whole of Royal Mails plan. Run the machines by all means but it doesn't mean to say it has to be delivered on Saturday - use the old system whereby we only used to deliver 1st class mail and 2nd class due - the rest could be delivered on a long Monday, couldn't it? I am still intrigued as to how we are going to be able to work fewer Saturdays, how it is to be administered and what happens if an office wants fewer Saturdays and the management say it is not possible due to service commitments.
I can fully understand RM not wishing to commit to having to finance an increased pension BUT this is shortchanging the loyal workforce. The number of full timers has decreased and the number of part timers has increased which means a decrease in contributions but also a decrease in pensions, already decreased because the pension scheme as was has been closed and the new scheme pays less.
Royal Mail need the agreement and should be prepared to ensure that the agreement is acceptable to the workforce if it isn't there will only be trouble ahead.

Re: The truth behind the last 48 hours
I assumed that fewer saturdays would be achieved by the 4 day week, having 1 in 3 saturdays off. An interesting point is what happens to people on a rest week or rotating day off, as they currently only get 1 in 6 saturdays off? Is there any way everyone can get more saturdays off, or is it just the 4 day week that achieves that?dvbuk55 wrote: I am still intrigued as to how we are going to be able to work fewer Saturdays, how it is to be administered and what happens if an office wants fewer Saturdays and the management say it is not possible due to service commitments.

What will be interesting is how an office with a high PT ratio would be able to achieve a 4 day week?
And how a 10hr day would be sustainable with walk sequencing ripping out so much of your indoor workload?
The figures do not match up unless your delivery span is increased dramatically.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

yeah, there are a lot of things that don't add up about the proposed deal. should make interesting reading as to how they plan to implement less saturdays.

I am a union rep cant disclose how I know but I have posted on the mail centre forum what Royal Mail plans for the mail centres are. I hope that helps.benn2261 wrote:can i ask the truth how he gets to know all this information, are you a manager or union rep.so how will this affect mail centres in the long term then.
Now in terms of less Saturdays there will be a menu of options for offices to deploy depending on what the members within your unit want. Of course the 4 day week can work with part timers as it does now.

What does add up is that the longer Saturday is no longer an issue because Royal Mail ARE going to run the machines, Saturday WILL be a longer delivery span and we ARE going to have to suck it up.

Re: The truth behind the last 48 hours
Yes the menu of options has been touted before BUT are management going to go along with the 4 day week in an office that currently has a rotating day off just because the members want it, because that would mean a total reworking of an office work plan especially when the changes have already been rolled out?The truth! wrote:I am a union rep cant disclose how I know but I have posted on the mail centre forum what Royal Mail plans for the mail centres are. This smacks of the old "Local" negotiations where some are going to be working to ungodly hours on Saturday afternoon and some aren't.
It strikes me that somebody doesn't have the bottle to say "we aren't working beyond 2 pm on Saturday and that's it", instead of "if you can get your management to agree to you working fewer Saturdays you'll be OK".
