The truth! wrote:The CWU need an agreement to safe guard against the impact of Royal Mail`s plan as walk sequencing , the work plan change , the closure of mail centres , RDCs and later Saturdays will be introduced with or without an agreement.
Most senior reps know that but the fact is as the last 48 hours should prove the CWU are not in the market for a bad deal or a sell out. However every gain we make mean that Royal Mail`s finacial plan changes and thats not just on the benefits but things like MTSF etc.
Sounds like a pretty bad sell to me!
I think half the members have come up to me so far and said they'd better not be taking away our Saturdays.
The usual crap, here's a little bit of money (if we dont claw it back, then inflation will, anyways you'll be making us 2-3 times that in productivity boost).

Well unlike The Way Forward or The Single Delivery Agreements...it's nice that we get an insight into what is actually happening.I tell you what....it makes our bargaining power at local level better.
Another point. I wonder how the Unite/CMA discussions are going?

Bargaining at local level doesn't exsists in my office. The next batch of job cuts and duty changes are coming in on 8th March. Later starting times and park and loop for deliveries from September when the new walk sequencing machines arrive, and what are the union here doing about it? ......nothing!!
In terms of park and loop and WS the CWU has no objection to this and it has been covered off in the national talks, what CWU will be proposing on park and loop and the sequenced mail and start times will all be revealed at some point. A classic case of Its not what you do but the way that you do it!!
My D.O has a delivery methods revision/pegasus 2 due in the summer, but the critera are unknown as the criteria willbe dealt with by way of the national agreement if such thingh comes to be.
The 8th March thing should not be happening, dissgreement should be registered unless agreement has been given at local level to the changes.

Well what are you boys in the office doing about it? You must be one of those branches who stand up in divisional meetings and say "Nothing wrong in our branch",when in actual fact there is. Nothing shood be agreed until it is agreed. No revisions, more importantly no change whatsoever until national negotiations are concluded. The rep in your office is just your mouthpiece.Get your boys together.Give him the interim agreement and tell him to follow it.They are only implementing in your office.....BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!!

if the agreement is made and when the vote is giving to the membership surely we should be voting by function, on what the agreement means for the function we work in. It is so wrong for someone like myself who works in the hgv side of royal mail to be voting on a delivery issue and vice versa. i do understand that some of the agreement will affect everyone but the more function issues should only be voted on by the people who work in them.
If ever Higson refuse to turn up to a meeting, when the next meeting is scheduled, the CWU should postpone meeting with Higson for a further couple of days.
That would soon put paid to the Royal Mail top brass throwing hissy fits.
If the money is there for lump sum payments then it is there for improved basic pay.
Why offer a bribe if the deal is right? Surely a good deal should sell itself to the members without the need of a sugar coating.
I think we all know that if the sum is right then a bribe will guarantee acceptance of the deal, be it bad or awful. It will certainly get all leaders off the hook.
Two years down the line when the membership is facing the harsh reality of the deal you just know our national officials will shrug their shoulders and announce with suitable contempt that "you voted for it"
