Yes i've worked on the floor long enough to know the mobile rule was lax in the MC, and i don't meant blatantly pushing yorkies and texting .. thats just sheer stupidity, i've seen guys being spoken to for using them on the NP's where i work, when there is no mail, machines been cleared .. no risk.

If you're insinuating that i'm having a go at people marking out the floors with white tape, then please refrain. I'm referring to the fact that everything, menial or otherwise, is being thrown under the vast WCM umberella and everyone has to accept this as gospel.
thehappyones wrote:Just a thought here Stewie, if you feel so strongly about the Reps why not approach them and discuss these points. Im sure they would be willing and open to any form of discussion with you rather than have a pop at them on here where they are easy targets
I wasn't having any pop at your union friends, just stating facts as many many people know they are. I have, as others have, approached certain union officials about this and other problems, and usually met with the "I don't know / can't say .. i'll look into it" response, then they avoid us for a considerable time, and come to no conclusion .. no matter what level of the hierarchy you approach. I have no intention of approaching a union member AGAIN, when you can find one, and trying to get an opinion or solution, and also thereby revealing who i am. Nice try

:Very Happy You know how it is, I've joined so many forums over the years I was at a loss for another user name when I joined here. Just so happened the wife was watching Crocodile Dundee at the time and in the background I heard him saying something like "This is Donk". Good enough for me I thought!

Unless of course you're havin a go at me, in which case How Dare You Sir! :chuckle

Nope. Absolutely was not insinuating anything about you at all. Sorry if I gave you that impression.

Reps job hard .. yeah sure.

Union duty - sititng in a room while your colleagues work on the floor.

Good duties, because managers know you're a rep and let you away with murder, good overtime .. the list goes on.

Back in the day reps done their job with passion for their colleagues, todays reps just do it for the status it gives them, not the passion for their colleagues. Most staff only see a rep when they have a disiplinary meeting or similar, and at most, they're bloody useless during them as well. They're so pre-occupied with the status they forget they have to support members.

All members read are words, and hear reps saying "we're gonna do this / that / the other" nothing materialises, it's just pillow talk to shut members up and to dampen down the flames of members who have geniune disputes with management or the SSOW "policy" that appears to be two-way when it's busy it all goes out the window.

Best go now before i get disciplined for using my phone on the floor .. another rule brought in by WCM !
Well said Stewie :Applause :Applause :Applause , lost count the number of times reps have been approached on the back shift regarding the disgraceful treatment of LTFT workers with regards to overtime and the shout that goes 'FULL TIMERS ONLY!', FFS these guys are on 40 hrs already and still want the pick of the OT but the reps turn a blind eye to the plight of the LTFT workers because as we all know, the reps all just happen to be Full Timers, f*ckin disgrace in my opinion, rant over

Dear emanon66,
Firstly unless you haven`t noticed since the turn of the year or just b4 overtime @ GMC is being reduced by more then 50%,it is NOT your union that cuts your o/t(NOT THAT IT IS YOURS ANYWAY) it`s your employer that has that say(COST CUTTING /SAVINGS),Secondly there was a vacancy on the back shift for becoming a rep (DID YOU THROW YOUR NAME INTO THE HAT FOR IT) ? .Third part timers have taken o/t from EVERYONE it`s called DSA DUTIES 23 - 30 hours a week ,duties held by PART TIMERS.sadly emanon66 this is how it`s going to b with more cuts to come from RM and we will ALL need to get used to it FULL & PART TIMERS. :cuppa :wave.

postie75 you missed my point, any o/t available should be dished out on a FAIR basis, not offered exclusively to one particular section of the workforce i.e. Full Timers. The other point you make about the o/t on DSA disappearing is also flawed as those posts have only recently become duties but as everyone knows the actual posts have been up and running for almost eighteen months under the Additionals umbrella and to my knowledge the DSA is the only place keeping the o/t going at the moment.

The point is RM made up a chart for DSA to do away with o/t for EVERYONE because it is cheaper to pay someone basic rate than o/t rate.simples!!.it has only recently become a duty because RM trialed it 1. to see if it would work 2.to see if any p/t would jump at the chance of finishing at 3 or 4 on friday afternoon.one other point i forgot to mention earlier was when myself and others where p/t years ago (not very long) we never had saturday`s off (unless it was a day in lieu) now u have p/t charts with no saturday`s or 1 in 1 off which your union fought for m8.any ways why do u need to rely on o/t ???. :wave

Can't ever rely on o/t m8 but it's nice to get it occassionally as, unlike yourself, I don't walk out every week with an almost £300 guaranteed in my tail, simples. :d'oh!

Going back to my original post, there is not even a sniff of the cherry when the shout is 'FULL TIMERS ONLY'.

OT in my MC is allocated on the basis of hours carried over the last 12 months
- people with the least hourage get the OT, regardless of whether they are FT or PT.

Mount Pleasant MC, London. We think it's the fairest way of allocating OT, especially when there is very little,
as at present. I thought most MCs would allocate OT in a similar way.

Doesn't concern me either, 40 hrs a week in that place is enough for me, and like you said .. they're like flies around the proverbial when the overtimes about, and it's usually the old favourites that get it.

If you get used to loads of overtime, like years back, then those people are the ones who wil be affected, because they've adjusted their lifestyle to match their income, and not banked for the decline in overtime now.

But, the system used at Mount Pleasant MC does seem fair, and IF it's carried out the same way in GMC it should be more practical .. that is if the person(s) offering the overtime don't do it in the underhand way they do at present, or the first come first served basis.
