Re: Unions fault
IF the union leaders do look at this forum then surely they must see how the members feel about being kept in the dark.
So why don't they at least give us something ??????????
Before long there will be little membership left AND NO UNION.

I think the thousands of members they've lost in the last year will tell them that.packmule wrote:IF the union leaders do look at this forum then surely they must see how the members feel about being kept in the dark.
Because they've sold their soul to New Labour.packmule wrote:So why don't they at least give us something ??????????

Re: Unions fault
Cannot understand people who say they are going to resign from the union. Its a really well thought out decision because managers just love to pick people off one by one. So go ahead and stand on your own and see how far you get! Without unions we would all be on temporary contracts earning minimum wages open to all types of attack. I don't defend the lads at the top they are big enough and ugly enough to do that but they are doing the best they can with a government who just tried to privatise the industry and an employer who has only one thing on its mind PROFIT. Now all those who want/have left the union should follow THEIR STRONG PRINCIPLES and make sure they hand back any payrises, bonuses, enhanced SA /OT rates and anything else they that will recieve going forward. Lets not forget the pensions who's trying to defend our pensions? thats right our democratically elected leaders that's who. No one else the bloody employer is'nt for a start. GET A GRIP and wake up!

Re: Unions fault
It will never be a minimum wage job because no one would do it.
They struggle to get new people to stick it as it is.
Who would do this job for minimum wage when there are far easier jobs that would pay the same.
Being slightly better than a minimum wage job is the only reason i stick with it.
I'm reserving judgement but recently my faith has been tested because i feel the union aren't in as strong a position as they used to be and changes in the last 5 years or so have startled me.I never thought the union would have allowed half of what they have done.
But maybe they have no choice.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

With the results the CWU's 'defending' has produced so far, it might as well have been. Progress so far:
Deficit - now approaching £10bn, and no Labour commitment to bail it out.
Final Salary scheme - ended.
Reduced benefits for all in the new scheme.
Trustees even threating to close the FS scheme completely.
There are many reasons to stay in the CWU, but 'success' in defending our pensions is most definitely not one of 'em

Re: Unions fault
you still don't get it! Pension scheme would have been closed years ago if not for the union. Privatisation by New labour and Tories would have happened without the union fighting for it! The only thing that has stopped RM from closing and replacing with a cash pension is the union! So go ahead stop paying your subs and then ask RM to look after you. I'm sure that they will listen to all your problems and then sit you down and SXXT all over you because it will just be you on your own!

Did I say anything about quitting the union ? Read my post again. There is honour in fighting to stop attacks on our pension scheme, but the fact is that 2007's 'de-coupling' of pensions from other issues was seized on by RM and they ran straight to the goal and smashed the ball into an empty net. Changes have been made to pensions that are not going to be rolled back now, no matter what we do. So yes, SUPPORT THE UNION, but don't delude yourself that the 'de-coupling' was anything other than an almighty cock-up that has cost all of us a lot of money. Not today, but in years to come.

Re: Unions fault
De -coupling ,yep got to agree was a big mistake, but only one in a long list. "Secrecy" ,period of calm, local agreements, Yipee we've secured the Hooper report.
Come to think of it there have been so many tactical f**k ups it's beginning to look almost deliberate
Wonder if anyone gets a bonus for reducing the union membership?

I think in the next ten years Rm will be a minimum wage employer coz no matter what the union does if they are allowed to say the have got no money due to falls in volume without even being pushed into proving it (and we all know thats crap coz we are allways busy)then what can you do about it?Mangonuts wrote:Quite a few posts blaming the union already, purely on the basis of leaks, and suggesting a £150 a year wage rise by keeping back the subs. Don't forget any proposals announced this week are 'Royal Mails plans' and not the union's, without the union this would be a minimum wage employer.

Re: Unions fault
Totaly agree with that time after time local repps can do nothing because of the blokes at the top not giving them the tools to do out the CWU top brass is similar to any top brass and think of themselves only alot of the time however i do at the minute feel it would be self defeating to leave the CWU as your only option then would be to trust RM and they really dont give a s**t what we think.I think the lack of communication to the members by the CWU is maybe causing us all to fear the worst but if The truths post "The truth about the last 48 hours" is factual then that go's a long way in helping me understand a bit more why they havent said anything to us yet and maybe we need to just continue to wait and see what happens.fishtank wrote:Mangonuts wrote:Quite a few posts blaming the union already, purely on the basis of leaks, and suggesting a £150 a year wage rise by keeping back the subs. I think you confuse union with union leadership.
The reason people talk of leaving the union is because they feel disenfranchised with the democratic processes within the union.
Because it is relatively difficult for an ordinary member to register his protest they feel the only way this can be achieved is
by removing at least their part of the funding of the union.
It is not something i personally agree with but it is the failure of the union leadership to communicate properly with the general
membership that has brought this situation about.
And it P*SSES me off.

Re: Unions fault
This agreement is the biggest thing since the WFA 2000. Even back then Keggie was starting the move towards modernising the industry. He knew what was coming. Now Keggie paid for that vision of the future with his job. Are we saying now that we need to stay as we are and hope for the best. I believe that if we do not start to think outside the box with being open to new ways of working we will loss any kind of influence the union would have going forward. This union has not being frightened of calling the members out. Problem is that the managerment and government are a different breed than before. We must modernise, we must ensure influence. we must ensure fulltime jobs going forward. we must ensure a credible pension scheme, we must ensure longevity of the industry going forward. If we don't then I will see you on the picket line because after the election no government is going to stop the modernisation of this industry.
