Sorry but on RMC we allow people to remain anonymous and its seen as bad manners to ask that question.
el_cartero wrote:and why is he saying deal is done and then no deal one?
Because he thought it was, it turned out it was not. It happens.
el_cartero wrote:is it some kind of wind up?
No
el_cartero wrote:is this what the CWU staff are like? :d'oh!
CWU Staff work at HQ and though welcome on here by us at least, Dingo is not one of them. CWU Reps and CWU staff are to different types of people.

For once they have made the right decision then.

My only question is are both sides playing brinkmanship and who will blink first.

I think we need to know whether the union has really walked away or whether talks have resumed again today.
Talk of a deal being done is always premature as it assumes both sides will reach agreement.
I personally find it hard to believe an agreement on longer saturdays will ever be reached as RM are adament it will happen and the membership want no part of it.
It's a classic Mexican Stand Off.

The leadership handling of the dispute can be sorted out at a later date but we have to be honest with ourselves and ask can we stand up to a european directive,an anti union government and a corrupt Royal Mail.
When you are cornered, the only option is to fight. If you put up your best fight and lose you will still have your self respect.

If the reason is right, then you mustn't avoid the fight because the odds are against you.

A union is there for a purpose. If it refuses to fight for this purpose, it won't really exist and we will be paying for a group of people who, at best, will be getting wasted and guzzling curry at our expense, or, at worst, will be the management's secret police force.
I'm with you on standing up and fighting cucumber and wasnt suggesting that we dont. But we got a draw a line in the sand ie agree on the issues of the dispute and what we are not willing to accept and then go all out on the biggest information drive in the unions history- because if we cant win back the hearts and minds of our own members we are gonna be a long time dead.4 months of secretive talks!if thats democracy in action then democracy is a lie.

If a no deal situation is reached and the leadership is not willing to let the above happen then others far better informed and experienced than me can suggest the best way to sort this out

-but my gut instinct is to organise buses (maybe posties wearing eric cantona masks ala the ken loach movie!) head for HQ and picket the bastards....

These are not easy negotiations. Royal Mail’s strategy for the next 5 years is possibly the biggest transformation plan of any industry.

Remember its not the CWUs plan to have walk sequencing , later Saturdays , less mail centres and RDCs. It is Royal Mail’s plan in which they have borrowed over a billion pound of tax payer’s money to introduce and have to repay that money at standard rates.
The union has not been able to change Royal Mail’s plans in particular to later Saturdays, less mail centres, less rdcs or their decision to change the workplan.
There is no agreement as yet. It is your right to vote which way you want, but please remember that Royal Mail’s strategy was in place well before these talks and they will not move on some of those issues and their financial plan will collaspe

Something major has happened today which has now made an agreement less likely.

Royal Mail have briefed and will be briefing at WTLs sessions in London and possibly elsewhere titled LETS TALK ABOUT DELIVERY INDOOR PRODUCTIVITY . This briefing document explains intially about indivudual performance standards but now want to introduce standards based on these 21 items per inward sorting letters, 15 items per minute for plats and 10 items per minute for packets. In addition 12 items prep per minute all in including clear from IPS frames and clearing down your frame and collect your special deliveries.

This document has caused a ripple effect and has left the union believing that this new brief completely undermines the talks and some of the commitments within the discussions. In fact the union has now signalled the talks have boken down.

Watch this space.

Did you not quote a figure of 16 the other day?
12 is perhaps more realistic for a postman on his/her regular walk.
If the talks have broken down - what now?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

If that brief takes place then we need to be walking out the door! We've spent 3 months with negotiations being done behind closed doors with our members being kept in the dark, Only for RM to start dictating instead of negotiating. Enough is a fecking enough. :evil/mad
