That's a very good point!Fluke wrote:If your forced into driving for Royal Mail and happen to have an accident whilst driving for them, do you have to declare that accident to your own insurance company when you renew your private car insurance? Remember they ask the question "have you had an acident within the past 5 years"?
My own vehicle is mainly used at weekends nand I've never used it for work, so due to me only driving for a couple of hours, my chances of being involved in an accident are low and as a driving licence was not a requirement when I joined RM. Why the FECK should I drive for RM and run the risk of increasing my own insurance premiums for their bennfit?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If you are forced to drive for royalmail you could always be removed from driving for them by having three accidents in less than two years!. And their is alawys not being fit enough to drive for them one bloke i know was removed from being a driver because his eyes were bad but it did not bother him he was happy not to be a driver anymore and to go back walking the streets!.

Re: van sharing, can royal mail force you to drive
Reminds me of a conversation I once heard of, went something like...
DOM : 'I need you to do a driving duty this week'
OPG : ' I cant, i haven't got a driving license'
DOM : 'But i see you drive into work in your own car every day'
OPG : 'Yeah well thats for me to worry about innit!'
No real come-back to that is there!

People might think , the staff are being inflexible , dinosaurs , bolshy etc but you can guarantee that RM will handle things ; very , very badly
Apparently the reckoning for all this CDV's carry on , is because RM Senior Management think the Union has been too " aggressive" about bag weights

i'm almost afraid to say i like the idea of getting the weight off my shoulder, not having to wander all over to bag boxes and shops, trying to get hold of missing box keys. but no doubt a whole new set of problems will arise.

Like van checks speeding tickets parking tickets stuck waiting for a brake down truck while dying for a pi$$ and then you will have to do your whole loop afterwards!.midvillain wrote:i'm almost afraid to say i like the idea of getting the weight off my shoulder, not having to wander all over to bag boxes and shops, trying to get hold of missing box keys. but no doubt a whole new set of problems will arise.

I'd say its swings n' roundabouts... doing a walk is physically hard but relatively stress free where as a van duty isn't as physically demanding but more mentally stressful.k979aaa wrote:Like van checks speeding tickets parking tickets stuck waiting for a brake down truck while dying for a pi$$ and then you will have to do your whole loop afterwards!.midvillain wrote:i'm almost afraid to say i like the idea of getting the weight off my shoulder, not having to wander all over to bag boxes and shops, trying to get hold of missing box keys. but no doubt a whole new set of problems will arise.![]()

Re: van sharing, can royal mail force you to drive
it is swings and roundabouts. i suppose i'm wondering how many more years i can handle carrying heavy bags around the place before my back packs in. at the moment i do a mix of driving and walking, and to be honest, i do prefer the walking, but only because the driving jobs are such a fanny on messing about with all sorts of different crap.
i haven't so far had a speeding ticket, or a breakdown while out on duty, or a parking ticket.
i was speaking to a lad while doing christmas o/t in processing a couple of years ago, and he was doing it round the villages in the area, and he said it was great. so fingers crossed.

"My own vehicle is mainly used at weekends" - surely you're not one of those Sunday Afternoon Drivers cautiously ambling along at just over half the speed limit on their weekly outing.Fluke wrote:If your forced into driving for Royal Mail and happen to have an accident whilst driving for them, do you have to declare that accident to your own insurance company when you renew your private car insurance? If they force you to drive tell them your first stop will be the local "Cop Shop" to see if the vehicle is road worthy.
Missing bits of bumper. Bumbers held on with cable ties. Busted indicator lights. Sharp body work left over from last prang. Dodgy tyres. The list is endless.
Get all bags weighed properly so you know you are not over weight.
Don't put bikes in back unless they can be secured properly.
In a nutshell. make yourself a "pain in the arse" !
Bring it on !

If it was that bad I'd refuse to take the van out and ask for a replacement!Urban Smith wrote:If they force you to drive tell them your first stop will be the local "Cop Shop" to see if the vehicle is road worthy.

Re: van sharing, can royal mail force you to drive
Actually sharing a van is another question. I wouldn't let half of our lot drive me. Nothing more dangerous than a "flyer" with a Van !!!!
