New Starting Time

In our weekly team talk. We were told that our new starting times are to be (Town) 06:15 to 14:15 Mon-Sat. Rural 07:15 to 15:15 Mon-Sat starting from Monday 13th August. Is this every area or is only in the DD area.

i do a rural van run and my kids school finishes at 15,30 and it takes about i hour from last letter to getting home i dont see how im going to manage that

I sympathise with you Rocky and all the others who are in similar circumstances. Royal Mail has put these new start times in with no consideration for its employees. This so called 'caring employer' is well aware of the pressures it is putting people like you through in relation to childcare. Not only do they want to cut our wages but people will now have to pay out extra for childcare facilities. I suppose that is another part of Modernisation. They have proven once again that they don't give a toss for the likes of me and you.

Perhaps its to make people go part-time, you will have no choice but do that if you have family commitments. Caring employer my a**e! (Last year I came off my scooter on way in, taken to hossy in ambulance, picked up 3 hours later in RM van they said no one else to cover my duty in Callers, told they would'nt dock pay for being 3 hours late, nurses could'nt believe the way RM treat there staff)

If it's not been agreed by your rep , it don't get done. Keep to your current start / finish times. Let the clowns keep
pretending you've no representation in the workplace.

Im sure there is something legal somewhere that says they can't alter our start times just like that.
I still have disagreement in about it, they are lasting it out and will try and force it in by exec action but they must honor the IR framework first
and go through the stage three disagreement-----then more action.


We have been told possibly 6-2 town and 7-3 rural.

Im sure if later starts are forced in then everyone will work their proper hours then----TOO LATE---DO IT NOW!!

It beggars belief the way RM works sometimes, then they wonder why people are cynical at ALL things. Posties smell a rat even if there is not one!!!!!

I wonder if we can approach this problem from a health and safety angle - as far as I am aware no risk assessment has been either done or deemed necessary by RM in respect of the changed conditions under which we will work if the start times are changed.

1) Changes in road traffic /road conditions
2) Weather exposure - out in hottest part of the day and for longer periods
3) Out in poor light in winter towards the end of long walks or extended delivery
4) Stress of dealing with customers getting mail EVEN later

I'm sure you folks can think of many other reasons to examine the proposed change carefully but then again, does the health and safety aspect still count for anything?

My DOM has put foward proposals to get 50% of the office on 6am or later starts.

Reason for 50 % is that is offical policy from RM HQ not 100% moving to 0600 or later. My DOM told me this and he was told by the acting DSM.

Not gonna happen,where i am our finishing time is 1-45,we're 5-45 starts.
We're being moved to 6-00 starts.
And from memory SE England is usually hotter than up north.
I don't think they will swallow 2 and 3.

I don't think they will swallow 2 and 3.

We are presently on 05:00 start and 13:27 finish with a short saturday but will move to a 06:15 start with days equalised to finish 14:15 every day if it goes through.(p.s. we're not as hot up here because we're always working in the f**king rain, but the rain is getting warmer lol)
