Re: What is "ghost overtime"?
My best bit of ghost docket was about 10 years back when this postie cut off with half a road (claimed) in the pouring rain. I'd just got back and the guv asked if i would take it on my way home for nothing
No way i said
He asked a few others but got no luck so came back to me and offered 1/2 hour's docket , nope says me so he upped it to 2 hours
i was his last chance or he would have to do it himself and it was chucking down.
I agreed and went to collect the mail only to find a very small bundle and a single jiffy bag packet
It turned out to be just about 15 houses which took less than 10 mins
result !!!! and it stopped raining
I agreed and went to collect the mail only to find a very small bundle and a single jiffy bag packet
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

bandit650 wrote:Ghosting overtime= is doing overtime within your duty span,it's a form of bribery when a manager needs some thing done and has not got the staff to do it so as a way of getting it done is to offer someone a bit of O/T and turning a blind eye to the way it's done,ie,not taking meal breaks, giving a van over so they can get round a bit quicker and still get home before their duty is finished. Our office it's the brown nosier staff that come in early and that run about ,don't take meal breaks, waves to you as they go past on the way back to the office when you still have 2 bags to go, you know the type we have a whole raft of them in our place and it's no good saying to a manager about it because the same staff play football or cricket or spend a lot of their time in the managers office drinking coffee with them.
right on the money bandit.................pardon the pun
you must work in the same D.O as me..............ok if everyone get's it, but the blueeyed boys piss me right off and a few hundred other's, just hoping I.B catch them and do an investergation, then there will be a few hundred happy face's

If a postie claim's..........say 8 hour's to do the extra the dim has giving him on overtime, and either the postie is being watched by I.B for reason's they already know about, or are just doing a normal check on the postie, then they go and investergate all aspect's of the postie including the overtime performed and found he was getting in the house or pouching off at 12.30pm and booking overtime until 8-9pm that night, thats called FRAUD, and also called spanish pratice's, i think, you know, the kinda of thing that royal mail want to get rid of, but all of there manager's nation wide do everyday.................................anyway the postie is claiming for something they shoudnt be claiming, then I.B would do an investergation in to how long and how much they have claimed, so they can reclaim the money's owd back to the company...................................you ever treid to get a dim write down and record that they are paying you extra, do it and watch them run a mile, they wouldnt touch the idea, as it would be them getting sacked and having to owe the company £...................................hope i got that right, please feel free to correct me

Nope sounds right. And when you get the ghost overtime, and if IB catch up with you, do you think your Line Manager will admit he agreed to this?
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: What is "ghost overtime"?
Answer to that question is NO,first thing the supervisor (i love calling them that) will say is i did'nt say that, what i said was he/she should come back and pick up the other bit then deal with it,i did not know they did that if so he/she should not of claimed that bit if they fitted that in within their own duty.IPS wrote:Nope sounds right. Re: What is "ghost overtime"?
Thanks for the replies - in my DO we have about five or six full timers who run around like headless chickens to get back between 12.30 - 13.00 (supposed finish times vary from 2.00 to 2.30pm) to then do extra sorting? (Which could be left for the next day) or take vans back to mail centre - the DOM has used this "ghost" overtime to reward his "blue eyed boys" to the detriment of the rest of the staff (No extra hours for part timers). Every minute of a part timers over time claim is queried yet this practise has become a useful tool for managers to get the job done and has been built into the working structure of the day. I find it a bit rich managers saying "all we want is for you to work what you are paid for" then pay people extra for working within their hours - Not right!! I believe this is fraud and morally wrong. - Anyone from the union or management care to comment on this practise.

These managers will get caught in the end,the staff that run round and do all these little just jobs will have a nasty shock coming to them, why because when these managers get the audit team walk in which they do trust me you find that a manager gets replaced then you get another nutter come in,i believe they call it a new broom,we are on our 4th new head for the same handle.keep smiling.

Many years ago we used to meet a ghost train in the evening. The train had not been running for over 2 years before management found out. We spent the time in the pub which was next to the station.

Re: What is "ghost overtime"?
The 'ghost overtime' is agreed by you and the manager! They know that you are not out delivering mail at 10pm for gods sake! How would they be able to say they did not agree to it after they have signed your overtime off AND put it on the computer to send it to wages?

If you have no paper trail leading you to the manager, then would u deffo go down the conduct code as fraud, as the postie had no "official agreement/autherisation" then the dom is laughing, just think, all that extra overtime payed back and 1 less evr for someone in the company.............................think about the end result,£££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ :cfo
