Crooks target businesses in West Reading

Burglars have broken into West Reading’s Royal Mail sorting offices three times recently.

The first incident took place on Monday, January 11, where an offender smashed a window of the Loverock Road building, reached inside and stole some special delivery items.

The second break-in happened at 2.50 on the morning of Saturday, January 30.

Police said on this occasion the offenders smashed in through a window and stole 15 packages.

They re-visited the building a day later at 6.10am but left empty-handed.

Police spokesman Adam Fisher said: “There has recently been a number of burglaries in the industrial areas of Loverock Road, Portman Road and Scours Lane.

“The Oxford Road neighbourhood policing team is working alongside other departments to tackle this problem and bring the offenders to justice.

“However, it is apparent that some businesses are leaving themselves vulnerable and could do more to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of this crime.”

He recommended businesses locked buildings securely, installed security lights and CCTV and did not leave valuables such as tools in sight of would-be criminals.

Royal Mail said it had taken measures to improve security.

I think it's what, in Police parlance, is known as an Inside Job.
Otherwise it could just have been the canteen window with a manager's cup of coffee being the only loss.
