Beat the Post

We were recently asked to deliver an insulting letter. Insulting to us as postal workers, that is, not to our customers. It was an advertising circular from Clifford James (established 1970), announcing their January sale. The insult was a statement on the front of the bright red envelope.

The letter was an item of downstream access mail relayed through a private mail company called Secured Mail (I’d never heard of them before), and underneath the frank there was a label, ‘Beat the POST!’, across an image of a speeding van. And underneath: ‘Our products are delivered by private courier NOT ROYAL MAIL.’

DSA - don t you just love it.
In order to advertise the fact that they don't use Royal Mail to send their packets, they have to rely on Royal Mail to send their letters.
This isn't the first case I have seen as this - it is hypocritical and ridiculous.
And what's the betting that they'll be sending some of their packets DSA as well.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Off their website.

Secured Mail operated Down Stream for the first time in 2006 and has since continued to grow into one of the most innovative Down Stream Providers. With a compliment of senior management originating from a non postal background and.................ex Royal Mail colleagues,

They are doomed. :chuckle :chuckle :chuckle

Since the market de-regulated in 2004, Secured Mail has been able to carry mail at wholesale rates which are set by Royal Mail’s Wholesale division. These rates are the same for all providers. We visit 67 Inward mail centres on a daily basis and compete for market share against other DSA (Downstream Access Providers).
Secured Mail collect, sort and process your mail ready for delivery to an IMC and then onward delivery to the households by Royal Mail postmen and women. We accept mail sorted and unsorted on a daily basis.

At least we get a mention. :cuppa

Depending on the Secured Mail service selected, the time between collection and delivery will vary. All of our services are day definite and once your mailings are handed over to Royal Mail to be processed, more than 95% of items injected are delivered next day. To view Royal Mails Quality of Service please visit:

The cheeky b*st*rds even have a link to RMs website. :silenced

They are about to get even bigger, our biggest shareholder is using them to post 40 million NHS items over the coming weeks!!! If our own government can't rely on us it doesn't bode well does it!!
