drb wrote:It is sad really. The last new starters in the last couple of years were trained to use their car,so they do not know any better.I think they will really struggle once the new agreement kicks in.I have seen on a few threads in the forum the arguments over "paid/unpaid meal reliefs". OK fine...it's worth the argument for principle sake.Let's be honest though.Even when we have been paid to take a meal relief...we never use it! We use it to do absorptions/lapsing!!!
I don't think it is something we should "dislike" someone for. They are just used to it that is all. However I am fed up with the reps getting it in the neck when these changes happen though!
To a certain degree HQ too. However they cannot MAKE us stop using our cars. Why? Because it is THE NORM.If we stop working "normally",then it is deemed as unofficial industrial action.There-fore we have brought it amongst ourselves really.
Those who choose to do the job correctly,(or work safely),they are a minority.Their voice is not loud enough and it is really frustrating.Hence the regular arguments on this forum.
If it is the 'Norm' how come at our office in response to the first Pegasus fiasco we voted overwhelmingly not to use cars on delivery and this has held ever since. It was not regarded as unofficial industrial action. Where in your contract does it say you have to use your own car at your own expense on your delivery. It is Royal Mail that keeps banging on about the right tools for the job and if this means conveyance vehicles, or pouch drops then that is what they should be supplying.

How can ANYTHING be described as IA ( unofficial or otherwise ) if you are attempting to perform your duties in accordance with RM standards? Or if you still can't work it out......how can you get a b*llocking for doing the job the way RM ( not your DOM, RM ) tells you to? Seriously mate, it's not rocket science - on top of that, if anyone gets stopped by plod for no MOT, dodgy tyres, etc, your DOM will suddenly remember the rules and drop them like a sack of sh*t ( he doesn't care as long as he gets the job done cheaply & doesn't get his collar felt ).
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Mail delivery; those that can, do, those that can't, MANAGE!

Well said, why should they come down on you for working to rule?? You are doing your job PROPERLY, the way RM defines it ffs.

One thing I forgot when working to rule is remember that drop bags are 11Kg max. If your packet bag weighs more, refuse to take it until it weighs 11Kg or less.

Working to rule is deliberately doing everything by the book such as tapping every single letter, taking toilet breaks that aren't needed even though you might be entitled to them, taking the never walk whilst reading to the extreme. It basically makes any job impossible to fulfill by following every rule written down. This is not the same as doing your job properly. Doing your job properly is working as efficiently as possible without violating health and safety or the law.
Remember, if all industries worked to rule, wages would fall through the floor across the board because it would take twice as many people to do the same work as is done now.

Have to agree. Let the others cut their own throats.

Bang on :Applause :Applause :Applause

Not using your car and telling your dom is easy. Example: your car has a failing starter motor, your car has a slipping clutch, your gearbox is faulty. Or i ve just renewed my insurance and i can no longer afford the business cover as i have not had a pay rise so i will be using a bike from now on, sorry. :left:

You dont have to meet the situation head on.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
