Re: Glasgow mail centre is there something wrong!!
Yes i'm aware that there's a damn good chance they'll win their appeal, because RM in their heavy handedness have dealt with them collectively, rather than individually, and as far as i understand, the "recipient" was no angel, by consistently antagonising certain members of that group for a long time .. no excuse, but there's no smoke without fire.
I haven't heard of that incident with the alts because i'm constant early, although i'll hear it on the GMC grapevine no doubt.
The World Class Mail is just a smokescreen for implementing changes that they would otherwise not get away with, they should define what WCM entails, then we'll know if changes fall under WCM or not.

Re: Glasgow mail centre is there something wrong!!
This 'WCM' thing really is a feckin joke and everybody knows it apart from the sheep involved with it, what is the priority in the Mail Centre these days anyway?, is it picking up elastic bands and bits of paper or actually doing what we're paid to do and sorting mail properly so it gets out the door on time? We'll see where all this emphasis on H&S comes on the list of priorities when the next pressure comes along.

Well Emanon no need to wait till christmas to see where H&S comes in the list of priorities within Glasgow MC ...You can see it on a daily basis but remember its not just the linos that should be ashamed but our own members who consistently flout the SSOW etc here but its the managers that are unwilling/unable to challenge without resorting to go down the conduct route ..BAD man management which is no surprise really for anybody that works here

You don't need to wait untill the pressure.
I've done a few o/t shifts on the platform and that's a total nightmare, with piles of mail as high as my chest in some cases, and no manager to be seen. Also done them in the warehouse, where people wander in with no hi-vis, or people pulling 2, somethimes 3 !!, yorks.
Eamon .. you missed out the "Bring people in on o/t to mask out white lines on the floor for yorkie placement" .. that's another farce

Re: Glasgow mail centre is there something wrong!!
Does it really matter what we think of WCM?
Management are just gonna throw every hair brained scheme they can fabricate into the big WCM "envelope" and disguise it as part of WCM, and under the dillusioned and powerless union we have it's gonna happen continuously.
I have spoken to countless ex-members on the early shift who left the union after many years because of the spineless and ineffective way it's run, and the inneffective manner that their requests are processed. Not to mention the fact that when someone asks a union rep "whats up with Joe Bloggs" they'll tell you, same with managers who tell other members of staff "oh, he/she's a ...." or "he/she's off sick with ..."
Digressing yes, but it's 2 ineffective groups, and should prevent the other from gaining mommentum with this WCM malarkey, sadly it doesn't and never bloody will, because actions are far louder than the words the union write.

You know i get really cheesed off with people slating the union all the time .....stew have you been or have you tried to be a Rep ..a reps job is hard enough without people constantly slaggin em off there not miracle workers or magicians they can only try their level best ....which i know sometimes isnt good enough for certain individuals within our MC ....

Considering your involvement with the union, then it's obviously going to be subjective whatever you say.thehappyones wrote:You know i get really cheesed off with people slating the union all the time .....stew have you been or have you tried to be a Rep ..a reps job is hard enough without people constantly slaggin em off there not miracle workers or magicians they can only try their level best ....which i know sometimes isnt good enough for certain individuals within our MC ....
Reps job hard .. yeah sure.
Union duty - sititng in a room while your colleagues work on the floor.
Good duties, because managers know you're a rep and let you away with murder, good overtime .. the list goes on.
Back in the day reps done their job with passion for their colleagues, todays reps just do it for the status it gives them, not the passion for their colleagues. Most staff only see a rep when they have a disiplinary meeting or similar, and at most, they're bloody useless during them as well. They're so pre-occupied with the status they forget they have to support members.
All members read are words, and hear reps saying "we're gonna do this / that / the other" nothing materialises, it's just pillow talk to shut members up and to dampen down the flames of members who have geniune disputes with management or the SSOW "policy" that appears to be two-way when it's busy it all goes out the window.
Best go now before i get disciplined for using my phone on the floor .. another rule brought in by WCM !

Quite a rant Stewie!stewiegriffin wrote:

Well, I'm neither here nor there with WCM as no manager has convinced me it's the bees knees and no rep, or anyone else who speaks out against it for that matter, has come up with a sensible reason why it's the devil incarnate.
What I can say Stewie is that the phone rule was in existence loooong before WCM came along. It was in my induction well over 10 years ago and in every induction since. It's just never been strictly applied. Mind you, I hear that you're not supposed to even have it on your person now. If that's what it takes to stop some people ignoring H&S by PULLING Yorks with one hand while texting their mates with the other - is that such a bad thing?
Seems that the same people who have been complaining for ages about how lax the H&S is in the MC i.e. Yorkies being left half on the passageways, are the same ones who are now moaning about having guys marking out the floor with tape to stop it happening - and other similar examples.
Can't have it all ways people.

Re: Glasgow mail centre is there something wrong!!
Just a thought here Stewie, if you feel so strongly about the Reps why not approach them and discuss these points. Im sure they would be willing and open to any form of discussion with you rather than have a pop at them on here where they are easy targets
