what is the prep/sorting/walk time scale for 32.5 hour staff in blackburn? I'm having probs with new/old managers who don't know the times themselves.

It's not the contracted hours that defines the work done, it's the duty. There should be a breakdown for each duty.

For example:

9:00 start
9-9:50 Prep
9:50-10:10 Break
10:10-10:20 Acceleration to first delivery point
10:20-1:50 Deivery
1:50-2;00 Return to Office.

I cover a few duties, and this breakdown of hours changed from duty to duty, and from day to day (we do longs and shorts). Some duties get some prep done before you get there, other don't.

So when people come on here and say 25 hr contracts don't do prep, or 30 hr contracts do X amount of prep, they are wrong. It depends on the duty.

Really my problems start on saturdays when i'm sure i don't have to sort but some managers seem to think i do. The times just don't add up. By their logic 40 hour staff get more prep time than 32.5 regardless of duty.

By 'sort' do you mean your own prepping, or the main 'IPS' sort? Doubt you are meant to be sorting.

Part time AG grades do NOT IPS sort. Our office tried to get us to do it but it failed miserably when we were late out and had to cut off. Do not be bullied or humiliated into thinking you have to do it. I'm 32 hour and my day goes like this:
0736 Start prep - throw off mech etc / redi/ packets/tie up/bag up etc
0930 Meal relief
1000 Prepare to leave - weigh bags/load van/conveyance to walk
1020 ish start walk
1406 Finish time (BACK AT OFFICE NOT ON WAY) regardless of actually finished and posted all mail

Sat as above but starting 1/2 hour earlier

I'll do anything else they ask me to do within my contracted hours but when I politely point out that extra duties might mean that I delay my van leaving (thus make the other 5 posties on the van late too) and may cause me to cut off, I find that I am miraculously excused. Ask your rep for advice and always always always have witnesses to any management response!

Might be some sorting in at as at my place we only have 30/40 hour deliveries (1 25hr no prep) and the 30 hours have 3.5hours delivering, and 1.5 hrs prep and 0.5 hrs break and 0.5hrs travelling - unless your duty has an extra 2.5hrs (a week) or 0.5hrs (a day) on delivery because of its nature then they may be right.

Check both your contract and the walk log one of them should answer this.
