It’s not good to see anyone lose their job in this current climate. The prospects for finding another job quickly are pretty remote, irrespective of whatever part of the country you’re in.

Despite what you may think of any given Royal Mail manager, they’re human too. The chances are that they have families that depend on them to ‘bring home the bacon’. Their families are innocent of any wrong doing, real or imaginary, that you may have suffered at the hands of a manager. Unemployment doesn't just affect the person who loses their job.

I spent 10 months out of work back in 2003 and found it very hard to make ends meet. I’d turned 50 and that pretty much rules you out in the eyes of most employers. Thankfully, Royal Mail, or more specifically, a particular DOM gave me a chance. He’s now moved on (his replacement is not in the same league, by the way) but I am still grateful to him. I would hate to think that he might end up losing his job if there was a cull of management because, as POSTMAN implies in his post above, you can bet your bottom dollar the good guys will be sacrificed and it’ll be the mean mothers they retain.
At the end of the day we are all trying to do an honest days work, keep a roof over our heads and put food on the table.

Its a pity the snivelling feckers you are trying to humanise, didnt feel the same way about the people they have bullied, harrassed, sacked and whos lives they have on many occasions gone out of their way to make a misery of. You sound like you are relatively new to RM and I appreciate that not all gaffers are self serving snivelling sh***s, but most of them are nothing more than Kapos who's turn has come round. Feck em!

Very commendable sentiments. However how much more effective would the strikes have been if they had supported us? Their union asked them NOT to carry out work proper to postal grades but they did. How many part time postmen are out there "trying to make ends meet" on piss-ant contracts sacrificed to the god of mammon by those same managers who refuse to stand up to bully boy tactics by RM. You're old enough to know the old adage "handsome is as handsome does".
With 60,000 jobs already gone and Christa knows how many more to go there will be job losses and the likelihood is the good guys will WANT to go, the tossers will want to stay because they don't fancy serving at McDonald's.

It was fairly obvious this was going to happen eventually, you don't employ people on a 25 hour contract then have a manager on 40 hours (or however long they are in the office) to oversee them
