Acting Guvnors

Post by Pompey Boy »

I know that there is a them and us mentality IN RM ie guvnors vs posties, but the attitude of some acting guvnors is bad - bash the postie when acting and still act like a guvnor when not acting! Why do CWU allow acting guvs to remain members? Just a crap system I guess!

Play up Pompey - bad luck scummers!!

That was (yet another) fault in the Way Forward Agreement.
Prior to that people who went acting had to decide if they wanted to carry on acting after 6 months.
If they did they had to give up CWU membership.
And anyone who became a manager lost their seniority if they remained a manager after 6 months.
Now we have people who have been managers for years comong back to postal grade, keeping their
seniority and still behaving as if they are managers - and coming in during strikes. :evil/mad

Cheers for that info Baldrick. I'm surprised more people haven't commented, or is it just a situation that we have to put up with at POMC?

It's always funny when you see acting managers busted back down to postie then they have to work along side the people they were shitting on to try and get themselves made up as a full manager.

we have this happening at our unit, however the acting managers post seems to attract the 5 year employment type. while of course us very senior to these actors have great enjoyment explaining rules and regulations, them same actors seem to have pleasure playing the seniors to use what we say to undermine the less junior to the 5 years actors. then you have the juniors coming to us whinging, so now not only are they getting a stern talking to by the actors they are getting it in the neck from us for not doing the bloody job properly :d'oh! oh well you can't save everyone as not all want to be saved, unfortunatley its these i believe are dragging the firm further into the miya. However I must also agree that there are actors out there who believe there s**t don't stink but luckly for us there not at our unit for too long and unfortunatley they could be at yours :hmmmm but the ones at our unit that went back to the blue shirt I still talk to as its reassuring they still come to us old timers for guidence :Very Happy

Hmm.......forgotten that I'd started this post!

Here is another example of why this system isn't fair. A postie at our place is certain that his sickness record was discussed in GREAT detail by management with an acting guvnor when he was in charge of said postie's section. The acting in question has now been told he won't be considered ever again, so we have a situation where one postie knows every minute detail about another's sickness record, including management theories about why said postie is off at certain times of year etc etc. Totally wrong and why the CWU accept this sort of thing I don't know :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad

Terrible but true. Typical of low standard of Royal mail's Managers acting or otherwise.

Well it proves once again that if you continually recruit from within you will
"always get what you've always got" standards wont improve, morale wont
improve. Senior Management are the people to blame as they are the ones
who cant spot good management potential probably because it was the system
they themselves came through, and we all know the S**t we are in at present
because of very poor management and lack of leadership. As one of the posters
Avatar suggests "Can we fix it....No it's F**ked. Sums up the job completely :d'oh! :d'oh!

lets have some union involvment here! in my humble opinion there is absolutely no way an acting manager should have anything to do with sick absence, wether it be return to work interviews, issuing stages etc. thats like me going to the office and looking at any one of your sick records. stop this now

Acting Guvnors seem very willing and able to `adjust` overtime sheets and con the unwary out of their entitled O/T.
Do they get training in these skills or does the DOM just look the other way ? Any insider knowledge on this would be useful.
