In your own car??? If it was someone elses car more fool you. you were probably not insured by that person or Royal Mail. the car owner needs Buisness insurance nowadays...
Happened to me as well, after DAY ONE on the job, yeah I knew all that stuff Jenny

Will Royal Mail try and sack you if anything goes tits up with regards to the mail in your car?

We have heard about posties being targeted by plod and asking for insurance... unfortunately if your insurance doesn't cover business use ... YOU ARE UNINSURED....
You will get points on your licence and you will get a fine.

Another obvious one - Will Royal Mail provide legal assistance if you should be involved in a road fatality whilst using a private vehicle on delivery?

What have most of these replies got to do with environmental impact?

Fact - RM are introducing thousands of vans on to deliveries. Hence the environmental impact of people using their own cars means absolutely jack.

End of thread.

No need for people to use their own transport then is there! :so there

People who use their own transport are more concerned with their own interests and if people did their jobs correctly and didn't "aid/assist" RM in this way then there would be more people on bikes and less transport needed to be used for deliveries.. as has been said previously by other posts on this thread.

It sounds like you are a private car user.. or you just don't give a toss, also what you say sounds like you have a defeatist attitude to the problem!
Not end of thread! :cuppa

I was assured by management :left: ,that we would actually be benefiting the enviorment when we switch to van derived duties.
His reasoning being that we would not be dropping of posties, or their pouches, so less time for the vans to be on the go.
Can anyone with half a brain please explain this to me as i am clearly not very bright because i haven't got a clue how that works.

Its easy you ignore the fact that there will be thousands of extra cars/vans on the road, but count in the fact that these cars will be stationary for longer periods of time than the current ones.

Royal Mail logic is easy to follow, you ignore the bits that don't agree with Managements position, and expand and promote those that do.

Scandalous, how dare you cast doubt on RM's noble green intentions. As a company we have conducted a thorough and exhaustive environmental impact assessment of our planned mass CDV deployment.
Clearly it is common knowledge that the vast majority of cyclists are tree hugging vegetarians whose diet consists almost exclusively of a mix of chickpeas;jerusalem artichokes and TVP.
Clearly the effect of eliminating 22,000 prodigious sources of greenhouse gas emissions will be a positive contribution to our eco- friendly mission.
