I would love to see the union and royal mail try to rationalise a pro-rata payment that does not actually equate to more physical work between the different contracts.

I struggle with this pro rata crud. I do overtime in our office when i can as i am going through a divorce. My hours equate to higher than some others in the office over the year...........yet i still get less on bonus payouts.

but is a £30 per week supplement for door to doors (in wages) not a pay decrease for part-time staff who deliver same amount as fulltime yet lets say will only get £20 of that supplement instead of £30 d2d money

The D2D supplement will be pro-rata.

Out of curiosity i've just had a look when this topic started....5th feb. Can anyone honestly say that in the past 11 days of discussing this deal we are any nearer to finding anything official out? when will we get this further update?

£30 for unlimited D2D-they can stuff it cos it also includes any allowances we already get.This equates to a pay cut for me,£25 for D2D plus £12 early shift allowance.I'd want at least £50 a week.Are they going to be all in an envelope together or seperate ? If there is no cap on the number of items,what about size and weight per item-we currently get more for heavy/large item.Also the pay rise-is it back dated cos if not it's about 1% a year-pathetic!

Here is the latest agreement, (as dingo and lovejoy wish not share this info, i believe all members have a right to know) this could and most probably will change slightly.

1) D2d's into workload with no cap on how many sets
2)£30 a week pay rise for delivery staff (due to D2d's)including any allowances you already get.
3) £500 in April
4) £1000 when revision is complete
5) No delivery span, could be 3 or 4 or 5 hours this will come down to local agreement.
6) there will be a menu of delivery patterns which will be agreed locally.
7) 3 year pay deal
1st year 1.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
2nd year 1.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
3rd year 3.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
in toal 6.5% pay deal over 3 years and a total 2hrs less on a working week.

8)50% of mail centres to shut and 50% of rdc to shut a total of 12,000 job losses.
9) Saturdays to be a normal working day is still to be agreed but will be sorted out locally in your office revision.

I believe this to be as it was as of Friday, any other updates will be confirmed as of when i get them.
The ballot remains live. if this is not excepted by members then cwu will ask yo to go back on the gate.

Well I have spent most of my career in deliveries and the thought of 50% of mailcentre closures horrifies me to.
I'm sure certain posters will talk about consultations,MTSF,transfers and VR and how we can't stop progress.
But that is scant consolation for those in the firing line.
Nevermind the union never agrees to closures as it never agrees to full-time staff being replaced by part-time.
But it has been known to turn a blind eye occasionally.

So tell me the answer fishtank how do we protect mail centres from clousre.

Only a handful of mail centres Liverpool , Dartford , Southend and Glouster have been successful in stopping clousres in the past but 3 of them had to agree to increase productivity and therefore agree to cuts. In the end Liverpool had to close and both Dartford and Southend are now once again suffering from threats of clousure.

In the North West we have seen a number of mail centres either closed or closing. In Thames Valley both Reading and Oxford have closed and both Milton Keynes and Covertry are in the process of closing.

In London in 1994 we had 10 mail centres , now we have 3. We took a decison in London back then did we defend brick and mortar or did we defend the people. We decided of course to defend the people and achieve a London code of praticse which then a few years later became MTSF for the rest of the UK.

Look Mail centres will continue to close regardless of whether their is an agreement or not. The reason has nothing whatsoever to do with the union.

Its is down to the fact downstream access now has increased at an alarming rate which reduces workload in the outward part of the mail centre. One out ward pass also allows all outward work to be reduced. Most mail centres now are running under capticity.

A few years ago Royal Mail publish a hit list for mail centres which reduced mail centres to 31 , most on that list have closed since , Royal Mail denial that they have a list and have redfused to give the CWU a list.

The choice the union has do we accept that mail centres are going to close ? do we protect the people affected or do we try and possibly fail on defending bricks and mortar ?

That sadly is the choice any which way you cut it.

Some of you criticise me as I no longer walk the streets as a postie and therefore are not qualified to dare talk about deliveries , spans , saturdays or anything else. Yet some of you comment on things you dont know anything about and pass judgement without knowing the bigger picture and the facts.

You see we are all entitled to our opinion thats comes from living in a free world. I might not like you opinon or agree to it but you will never see me being slaging you off for sharing it.

Dingo, you keep saying that one of the reasons we have to accept that RM is potless ( which means RM expect US to be potless ) is that DSA has taken over a huge amount of RMs income, but you say nothing of the Union initiating a campaign, either inclusive or exclusive of the public, to highlight this problem and to try to change it - the facts of RMs current loss of income are known to politicians, and are becoming known to the general public - why is this? Is it because the Union have given it up because they think you might as well shout at the moon for all the good it will do, or is it the Union were involved in the negotiations in some way, and don't want any embarrassing revelations?

Something NEEDS to be done about DSA - the heads of RM, if not the architects of DSA at it's introduction ( L&C ) have now gone, with handsome rewards, into the sunset, while we are left to struggle on with this albatross around our necks.....does the Union have ANYTHING to say about DSA other than "Oh dear, what can we do? We just have to muddle along as best as we can, and hope it sorts itself out soon"

Smoker good question ! The union did launch a major campaign on unfair regulation including downstream access ! Infact we even got it within the labour manifesto .

This is why the hooper report was commisioned. Mandleson then got hold of it and part of the hooper report states that royal mail could run with 50 per cent of mail centres which surprise surprise royal mail want in the first place.

The governments postion on downstream access is that if they do any changes on it now which has a damaging effect on those companies like TNT , uk mail etc then they will face multi million pounds law suits as these companies entered the Market and invested millions of pounds into the mail industry and it would amount to unfair competition if the government now changed the rules .

Of course the union is still trying but we and royal mail have been well and truely sharfted.
