Thanks Dingo, very much appreciated, I have over thirty years service and rumours like that make me nervous.

Of course they do , I think they are designed to do so.

Look door to door will be included into workload , but the fear of suddenly everyone will recieve 5 or more is a red herring. Hopefully the product will grow but to do so Royal Mail will have to relauch the product as quality is poor in a lot of areas on door to door. Another red herring is that mail sort posters will down dial to door to door its a different market entirely.

However the advantage from door to door into workload if you have 20 walks in an office with 700 delivery points and you now have them included in your offices traffic figures will be an extra 42 000 items per week in your offices workload and will protect jobs in the future especially as walk sequencing comes in and reduces total prep time on addressed items. This is in addition to recieving a week supplement

The Union has not and will not agree to mail centre clousres but just like with crown offices just because a union objects to closures does not mean they survive. We all know sadly that due to de -regulation ( downstream access , a reduction in traffic , one outward pass that some mail centres and RDCs are earmarked for closeure. Regardsless of whether a national agreement is reached or not this will not stop Royal Mail from reducing the number of mail centres.

The question is do we want an agreement which puts in a consultation process , improves MTSF and protects from complusory redundancies or do we just man the lifeboats when a mail centre is chosen for closure.

So you see in life there are no easy choices , everyone wishe s things were different and we could protect every job and every term and condition we have but that world has long gone in Royal Mail.

Yes you will get a vote on the deal if there is one and it is agreed by the Postal Executive. At the moment there is no deal. Cant say whether that will change this week or whether you will hear more this week.

Well I have spent most of my career in deliveries and the thought of 50% of mailcentre closures horrifies me to.
I'm sure certain posters will talk about consultations,MTSF,transfers and VR and how we can't stop progress.
But that is scant consolation for those in the firing line.
Nevermind the union never agrees to closures as it never agrees to full-time staff being replaced by part-time.
But it has been known to turn a blind eye occasionally.

The majority of members will in the main vote on the Branch recommendation or national recommendations. I know a lot of members will refute that but I have seen the breakdown on most of the big agreements in the past and that is fact. Of course some members will make up their own decision regardless of the recommendation be that from reading the agreement or this site.
OF COURSE THEY WILL CAUSE HQ WILL OFFER NO ALTERNATIVE BUT SOME PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT THE COST HQ WANT US TO PAY!

Of course some groups of activists workers liberty , SWP and a few other groups will campaign against any deal
PEOPLE THAT LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE AND YOU CAN ADD PEOPLE WITH NO AFFILIATIONS LIKE MYSELF AS WELL!

The big unknown question is whether a big campaign of Branch`s against the agreement takes place or not.
WHO STARTS THAT CAMPAIGN WITH A FRAGMENTED MEMBERSHIP AND AN HQ HELL BENT ON SUCKING UP TO RM, GOVERNMENT AND EUROPE?

But of course we dont have a deal as yet ! and no one can make an informed decison until you have read all the words and the rationale for any agreement.

The fact i hope is that we will all get that say i hope we all will at the end of the day/deal and in saying this i will make my opinions on here hopefully and to my fellow workers KNOWN on any deal since we have yet to see it but have had snippet's of info it would be premature to judge this but as other posters have said most deals are for the benefit of royal-mail and not those who do the work for them the humble posties of this nation!. I would add a note of caution in that any deal which rewrites any deal previously gained by our strikes is a bad deal for one and all!.
