Rangers makes some good points. What i would like is VR offered to everyone in a delivery office which is having a change in hours. A lot of us have this job for its hours and how it fits in with childcare etc. If we move to what amounts to 9-5 hours we are screwed. The union don't want to do it as VR's mean less member and new entrants tend not to join the union. And one thing else, this agreement could contain the biggest changes in our history, for that we need a guarantee on our pensions.

It may well be worth having a recruitment drive after this agreement sees the light of day linkin. I notice the subs are based on salary which is a subject a colleague and I discussed a while ago for the CWU. Rather than a fixed amount for FT/PT it makes sense to have a structure of that nature paticularly for RM workers who now have such a diverse number of contractual hours.

Strange thing is whilst i would love people to join the IWW and learn its not at the expence of the CWU. I am a member of both and doing more and more for the CWU membership in my area for good or bad i dont know yet, the IWW teaches to me (wrong term as i am a newbie) that first and formost it is us that have the power as individuals to shape our own future but it can only be done by working for and with each other and not by sitting by and hoping for the best from the few. (it never happens and we all know that as fact!) Members are expected to help each other at all times in the daily grind and aspire for something much better for all working people and to fight against the abuse of our fellow workers by the employer / government. To me the IWW is not a replacement but a Broadening of decent values that through communication we all pass on to each other and fight for each other to improve our lot, some may say a tool? Our senior citizens are woefully underrepresented by ALL and all decent hard working people could play a part both for themselves and their peers and for me thats what IWW stands for and you in the next few years you would do well at it. Still it must be remembered all members have to work at it because it wont happen unless we do it. Sad to say the ONLY thing membership offers is bloody hard work but like many that are up for the task its another dimension and is rewarding and they still keep their own "Trade Union Card" as well as the IWW.

Yes that did sound a bit like poaching, but the intention was to actually have two strings to the bow - you never know when you may need advice which might not be forthcoming from the CWU because it cnflicts with their policy.

It depends on what was being offered, £30k and I'd break their arms for it, £20k and I'd take it after discussing it with my wife but anything less wouldn't be worth it.

A lot of people took this job for the hours and the union don't seem to consider this at all. VR's for all offices with enforced change in hours!

Any enforced change in my office, with regard to saturdays, we will demand a ballot of our members for strike action, strikes to occur on saturdays. And from what I've heard, we won't be the only office in London that does.

VR should be offered to those that lose their jobs first - especially if the CWU have produced the revision. There seems to be a lot of job fixing going on, something that could be deemed as 'victimisation' under the Bullying & Harrasment policy.

I wouldn't worry too much about VR, the way these talks are being extended it will be normal retirement - in fact I wonder how many have retired whilst these talks have been going on

I have heard that "Monthly Pay" might be on the agenda, with RM giving us an interest free loan to cover the first month, if this is true I for 1 will vote against it, think how much RM will save in the future by getting us to accept monthly pay and they have the bare faced cheek to offer us a friggin loan NO WAY

management been told to cut 20% of jobs ,not for modernisation but to trigger their bonuses. Does that not make u f in angry! Its like watching the company dissapear before our eyes and the hardworking staff (us) are helpess to do anything about it.

I work full time and could Royal Mail make me work say 34 hours instead of full time ? as I am probably be very low in seniority for full timers. Just wondering whether to be prepared to do this. Would Royal Mail offer me EVR instead ? as I work there nearly 5 years.

If youve been with R M for 5yrs your contract is classed as "substansive" & the only way they can ask you to drop
your hrs is by mutual agreement a "buy down"
