RDCs are Regional Distribution Centres http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... d=24400713" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We currently have 13 Regional Distribution Centres in addition to a number of separate consolidation points and vehicle operating centres. These key units are responsible for handling millions of customer sorted products.

Of course it will. It has a potential sweetener of £1500.And the MC's and RDC's (whatever one of them is) are going to bear the brunt of redundancies.
It looks like it's all good news for a delivery postie under 35.
(I find that once you get past 35 you begin to notice the body slowing down and you feel the ravages of time. Intimations of mortality and all that.)
So are you saying - sorry you older posties but maybe best if you start looking for employment elsewhere? Is this the new seniority rule?

Yes He is,But CCR is also the wrong side of 35. However there may be hope for us yet, 50 per cent of CWU members are over 45. Just 21,000 members are under 30.
Unfortunately this probably includes retired members.

As someone well over the age of 45 ( many thanks for the euphemistic "wrong side of 35" FT) I feel the pain as much as anyone else in my age bracket. But I'm a minority in my DO I reckon.
Maybe the average age of my DO isn't replicated across the country.
I love the idea of "the new seniority rule" though.

Do I think the deal will be accepted by the membership ?

Thats not an easy question to answer.

I think no agreement will be rejected by the membership unless there is a major campaign led by a number of divisons and Branch`s. I realise some members will dispute this but thats my view and experience of past agreements.

For many members they will not see past the lump sums and that has always been the case and is why Royal Mail keep offering them.

For others the issue of Saturday`s will be of great concern and protentially could mean that a lot of members may reject the deal.

Equally the issue of door to door could be of contention but the flip side to this is that not everyone does door to door now and not everyone does 3 items now whilst all delivery staff including nights , indoor , drivers , reserves and rest day covers will recieve a supplement paid 52 weeks per year.

Plus the other consdieration indivduals need to understand , that the union has never had the right to veto automation, changes to workplans , closure to mail centres or the introduction of new delivery methods. All of these will still be introduced in offices whether this agreement is accepted or not. The differnce between whether you have an agreement which allows for the union to agree safeguards and benefits or we reject the deal and contend with each of the above locally.

My own view is that with any agreement there will be pros and cons, each member and rep will weigh things up based on where they work or what function they work in and the benefits which are within the deal.

This is a very good point. I am sure some people will vote yes just to put an end to this sorry saga.
Just imagine if it was a no vote and the talks had to recommence..........
It could be years before we got the £1500.

Sadly the fact remains that most customers post late in the afternoon and evening. The first opportunity for the walk sequencing machines to operate is when the mail centres clear they inwards mainly intra and neighbour work , plus mail sort and second class etc which is appoxmately midnight. The second 40% of work is not avialable as it is being transported from other part of the country (distant mail. ) This is scheuduled to be clear of a mail centre at appoxmately 4 40 in the morning and then of course each batch of work has to have 3 passes.

So unless you change the above including when firms and customers post then you cant resolve the problem. In addition such a change would have a drastic impact on mail centres and RDCs and network.
So change the above including when firms post etc!All DSA should be treated as second class anyway and 4 instead of 3 days should now be given for these items to arrive.Im sure cut off points could be set for all the above as happens for special deliveries at present.I cant understand why a transition period for the network cant be set and at the end of the day if x amount of work is being done at a mail centre then changing cut off points wouldnt mean any more or less work being done there.

Otherwise i presume as happens now a large amount of mail on these new later/longer deliveries wont arrive because we cant get into residential housing- for five years in my office we havnt managed to get council and private landlords to change service/entry systems and royal mail senior management have told us to chalk up after 3 days.the problem at present has been minimised by staff coming in early, nae taking a break and bombing round taking shortcuts etc you know the drill.

In the offices where they are on 4.15hr deliveries with shared vans the fatigue and tiredness is less than on 3.30hr delivery spans due to getting the weight of the shoulder.

How does that compare to 3hr 30 mins with a bike?
