RML are keeping very quiet on their plans with regards to renewing the lease on the building that is used as P'boro MC, may well be they havent decided, but there is a handfull of years to go on the lease.

There were 8 MCs in London 15 years ago.
Now there are 3 - Nine Elms, Mount Pleasant, and East London MC.
Union believes one will be closed. Don't know which though.

After dispatches Nine Elms would appear to be the one with the target painted on its back.

However, I cannot see the logic of getting rid of any of them.

Don't know London well But Nine Elms Covers the South of the City and Mount Pleasant the North, getting rid of one of these would cause more congestion in the centre and DOs fed by the one that closed would have, shall we say, inconsistent arrival times. The East London one is too far to the East to be replaced by the 2 other London ones, and whether replaced by MCs in Kent or Essex it would face the same problems.

The only way it could work and I don't see it is building one of the more central MCs up to take more traffic, building or using existing tunnels under the city to dodge the traffic thereby making the defunct MC more of a feeder unit to its DOs. But that is pure speculation and IMHO complete "Blue Sky thinking" Oh Bugger :left:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well it's all rumours at present. But we hear RM want to have one MC south of the river
and one north, which would presumably mean Nine Elms is safe as the only south MC,
so the choice for the chop would be between Mount Pleasant and East London MC.
Plenty of rumours flying about, but some hard info would be good.

I've heard all MC's in Kent to go with one new one being built either near Maidstone or Swanley.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Royal Mail"s next two mail centre clousre plans include a review of the North East of England and the South East of England the rumours for this part of the country is that only Jubilee , Gatwick and one other new build mail centre covering Dover, Canterbury , Dartford and Tonbridge will remain open.

These mail centre reviews were planned some time ago , and will happen with or without a national agreement in the same way as the North West review has and the south midlands review.

Say if they close Dartford and build a new build near Maidstone or Swanley.Does that mean posties will get a lift too there first delivery point in Dartford? and a lift back?.

I'm sure there will be new DO's built or leased in the 4 towns when the MC's go and they will incorporate the local SPDO's aswell.
