Of course the pensions crisis will be solved if we do longer walks because we'll all be bloody dead before we get to benefit from all the money we've paid in.

After the talks which were due to take place on friday has either sides position changed?
and is there likely to be any announcement soon?

Re: UPDATE FROM HQ
f**k the agreement. If anyone wants to see the future, they only have to look at what is happening in POL.
I work in a cash centre with roughly 100 other staff so the set up is a bit like a mail centre. However, because we are isolated and are part of a branch that mostly covers Counters, we are f****d over. Can you believe that there are two branches at our cash centre, one for indoors staff and another for drivers. The new agreement that the PEC have endorsed keeps this unpractical situation. Why did the PEC agree to this?
I believe our unit is used as a testing ground for management/union innovations. I agree with many of you who have expressed the opinion that the union's strategy for survival is to become a junior partner of the management. Why do I believe this? I have experienced it first hand.
The senior management at our place do not talk to the staff. Our union rep delivers bad news for them. Last year, after gaining intranet access, I discovered that a none of us had been paid pay protection after having our pay cut as a result of a management-led duty revision. My union rep and area rep told me that there was nothing they could do about it. My branch secretary said that it didn't sound right. I had to get local MPs involved for us to get our money back. Our union rep even held a meeting begging staff not to put stage 2 grievances in. I also discovered that a number of my workmates had been paid substitution allowance for years instead of getting temporary promotion. I had to write to the business partner to get them paid up. On the very day that they received their money, our union rep was arguing with me that I had misinterpreted the substitution agreement. Why was I able to recover about £50,000? What the f**k are we paying the union for?
There are cash centres in Hemel, Birmingham, Glasgow and Belfast. What's the betting that the workers in these places have also been ripped off while the union turns a blind eye?
Forget this agreement. If you want to know what direction this union is going in, have a good look at what they are doing in POL.

Re: UPDATE FROM HQ
Here is the latest agreement, (as dingo and lovejoy wish not share this info, i believe all members have a right to know) this could and most probably will change slightly.
1) D2d's into workload with no cap on how many sets
2)£30 a week pay rise for delivery staff (due to D2d's)including any allowances you already get.
3) £500 in April
4) £1000 when revision is complete
5) No delivery span, could be 3 or 4 or 5 hours this will come down to local agreement.
6) there will be a menu of delivery patterns which will be agreed locally.
7) 3 year pay deal
1st year 1.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
2nd year 1.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
3rd year 3.5% and 40 minute shorter working week
in toal 6.5% pay deal over 3 years and a total 2hrs less on a working week.
8)50% of mail centres to shut and 50% of rdc to shut a total of 12,000 job losses.
9) Saturdays to be a normal working day is still to be agreed but will be sorted out locally in your office revision.
I believe this to be as it was as of Friday, any other updates will be confirmed as of when i get them.
The ballot remains live. if this is not excepted by members then cwu will ask yo to go back on the gate.

It`s taken HQ 3 months to come up with nothing differant to the 2007 pay and modernisation rubbish.
I get £30 now for D2D so i`ll be worse of when they give us 6 a week.
OH and the same dangle a lump sum in front of us to grab the yes votes.
I hope this time the majority look at the long term and reject the carrot being held in front and vote this tripe out.

Re: UPDATE FROM HQ
In fairness there does seem to have been some thought put in to this - the staggering of the shorter working week is obviously in an effort to minimise duty changes as mail volumes fall and walk sequenced mail comes in.
However we once again get this one off payment scenario which does nothing to enhance the pension. The £1000 payment when the revision is complete - what is the revision? Presumably that is to encourage those who are a bit tardy in implementing change. The local agreement element is again very worrying especially as there is always that rogue element of managers prepared to steamroller unacceptable work loads and weak union support.
The pay rises of 6.5% over three years is too far ahead we should go for annual rises equal to the rate of inflation - anything less is a pay cut in real terms.
If this was the deal and there is no hidden agenda I would very seriously consider it before deciding which way to vote. I think I'd want to see the other 49 and a half pages and the appendices first.

If this is near to the truth then its targeted for Delivery staff to accept as there is more frontline staff thus shafting the mail centres and RDC's

Close but you left out two other lump sums and got a few other things wrong including the pay rises and the shorter working week.
So if we are going out on strike again ? Then what are we going on strike for ? To smash up walk sequencing so it dont run 6 days per week. Plus like I have said before look at your normal traffic figures for a saturday now and you will see that it is not much different than a Wednesday , Thursday or Friday and yet most offices complete it in less hours.
Plus do you really believe that as soon as the cap is lifted we will suddenly see every office getting more than 3 items pers week , this will only be achieved if the product is re launched
and can you imagine any other company or trade union saying we dont want any more work , we will be happy to loss thousands of jobs as long as you dont increase the cap on door to door.
Yes there will be hard choices to make , and of course we would love to say that reject the deal and Royal Mail will stop their work plan changes and the automation but you know thats wishful thinking.

Re: UPDATE FROM HQ
We finish earlier on a Saturday because we still have night shifts on Friday night. If Saturday is to be like the rest of the week then those night shifts will go and we WILL be finishing much later.dingo wrote:

For someone who is neither for nor against the agreement dingo, you do a fine job of letting us know time and time again there is no other option.
