spot on mate,as someone who has worked under both party's as a postman,but the tories are a different breed they hate trade unions with a passion and you can bet they will be after us as soon as they win the election.

You can depend on it. I wonder if Billy Hayes will sit back and say nothing while they attack our working conditions, pay, the NHS, transport and Education as he has done while his friends in the Labour Party did the same? If we really must have political parties, I'd like to see one looking after our interests for a change instead of fawning and cringing around the rich.

I can give you a clue if you are a bit backward about coming forward - its a nice round number...

Personally i hope NL get re-elected, then Clown & co can be honest and make the DEEP cuts necessary to save the UK from financial armageddon, but history will probably repeat itself, the Tories will have to make the necessary unpopular decisions needed to clearup the almighty mess we are in.

Getting the national debt down is very noble, but its matter of how its done, deep cuts (reducing expenditure) in genuine waste is fine, but that neeeds to go hand in hand with improving Government income. I dont think cuts alone will suffice unless you start cutting in areas that really shouldn't be cut.

if you are a trade union member come back and post on here if the tories have been a year in power,as regards reading the mirror its a good paper but we read the daily record in scotland and whats more there is hardly a tory mp to be seen up here.

We often hear about low hour wages under the Tories from Labour when defending the level of the minium wage, but if we take inflation into account I wonder just how much the minium wage would match up with low wages under the Tories, a lot more than Labour would care to admit I bet!!!!

Perhaps a look at this link may go some way to persuade you that the NMW really has made a huge difference to a rather large portion of our society.

That the NMW is a very good idea is not in dispute, however my concern is the rate its set at (I would take a pay cut if I did a 40 hour week on the NMW compared to my 30 hours a week on RML wages)

Then there is the three levels sysytem which is discrimination against younger workers, Harriet Harperson on her big crusade against inequality forgot that the biggest discrimnation of all was being left in place!!!

What we need is a living wage, that does not discriminate on the grounds of age, the London living wage set up needs to be expanded across the country.

Now back to my original point, what £1 or £5 or £10 or any other amount could buy you back in the 1980's and 1990's is not as much as it will buy now. That is a simple non partisan fact. What Im interested in is what £5.80 a hour (the adult minium wage for those age 22 and above) can buy now and how much you needed to buy the same back in the 80's and 90's. In my cadet days I reacll cans of coke at 30 pence but now they are nearly pound if some shops.

Yeah wages have gone up but the cost of livng has gone up dramatically as well, which in effect cancels out part of the increase in wages, the question is to what extent has that increase been cancelled out, especially for those age 18-21 who are adults in the eyes of the law for everything apart from the minium wage!!!

In summary the NMW is step in the right direction but it is far from the finishing line of a living wage for all with equality across all ages!!!

Has New labour any intention of the above, NO!!!!!

what ever happened to the promised windfull taxes on the super rich and the energy/petrol companies.....
instead they raided everyones pension funds with taxes.that was the end of our final salary's scheme and the begining of pension black holes
they also made it law that companies with more than 12 workers offer a stakeholders pension plan,but they dont have to pay into it..why fookin bother then?

As you have posted elsewhere (I think) the alternatives are not fully developed as yet - for a lot of reasons - the voting system being one of them.
The political space needed to develop alternatives to Labour funnily enough will only be available under Labour.
So basically the answer to your question is yes. Anything to avoid the return of a Tory government.
