Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
at our office we have been asked to phone in if we dont get rid of a special, theres no telephone boxes anywhere near my delivery. Asked if they could be put on the van, was told no so try delivery even if its going to be too late. Then as i do the job right and go and return on the van to the office everyday theres not much they can say if i have to return an item which is outside the alloted time. Cant see why so many people are seeing this as a problem. ITS ROYAL MAILS PROBLEM NOT OURS.Theyve made later deliveries without taking into account all the other aspects of the job.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
You are absolutely right viking, the problem is theirs and it will get worse with longer and later deliveries - they do not appear to be able to address it or have no intention of addressing it. Some good having PDAs to record the time if we can't get there for 1300.viking wrote:at our office we have been asked to phone in if we dont get rid of a special, theres no telephone boxes anywhere near my delivery. Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
They do this in lots of areas. The problem is if the PHG confirms a Special Delivery as confirmed after 2pm, even if it was delivered before 1pm, then it shows up as a failure I think. If they confirm them all as delivered before they have even left the office and the customer goes online to check the status of their SD and it tells them it has already been delivered, they obviously start to wonder where it is.wolfie citizen smith wrote:I'm under the impression that the Anglian area confirm them delivered before they have even left the units
Then you have to explain that we confirm them as delivered until told otherwise and then we reconfirm them as undelivered. The general public have difficulty following that.

I have trouble following that, and I deliver the bloody things!clashcityrocker wrote:Then you have to explain that we confirm them as delivered until told otherwise and then we reconfirm them as undelivered. The general public have difficulty following that.
You get the card signed if they are in right? If they are out you put a cross and 'P739 Left'. So..when this card goes back to the office, they can tell which have been delivered, at what time, and which failed.
WHY confirm by phone?
WHY 'pretend' they have been delivered before they leave the office?
WHY 'fail' one that was delivered before 1pm, just because the card isn't back to the office until 3pm?
WHY not just wait until they see the flipping card before doing anything?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The PHG told me that anything confirmed after 2pm shows up as a failure in the system because the system is crap.NewPostieUK wrote:I have trouble following that, and I deliver the bloody things!clashcityrocker wrote:Then you have to explain that we confirm them as delivered until told otherwise and then we reconfirm them as undelivered. The general public have difficulty following that.

Any SD's collected from the callers office after 2pm were confirmed the next morning to avoid any confusion!

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
No idea. I was told when I started that you had to keep them on you, IE in your bag, at all times, even if it was for the end of your delivery. Thats OK if it's a letter, and there's just one, but I've had four before, even if they are small books or DVDs, they take up space, and it's a pain carrying them around. They get bent and damp, and if you have 3 or 4 other packets undelivered, where the heck do you put your carefully weighed third, forth and fifth bags when you pick them up?POSTMAN wrote:I was under the impression when SDD came in that they HAD to go out with the vans, and now we've got PDA's.........

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
no the phone function works fine, theres an 0800 number(cant remember it off hand, its on speed dial on our pda's and you get an automated message which asks for your office code, then it puts you throughnoggin1969 wrote:The new PDA's have a phone function on them but this is disabled
editted to add, your pda's can only dial the 0800 number or 999, so you cant call the missus but you can call your office, if they answer the phone though is another matter :)

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
the reason they want them confirmed by phone is part of the product spec is not only are they delivered by 1pm, but they are also confirmed as being delivered by 2:20, if that confirmation doesnt take place then they are liable for compo for the customerNewPostieUK wrote:clashcityrocker wrote:

the reason they "pretend" they are delivered is for the same reason, a while back, last year i think, there was a company who was sending stuff out via special delivery(thousands of Specials a day Literally, v big organisation) they actually employed someone to sit and go through all the special delivery reference numbers and check what time delivery was and what time it was confirmed, and were then whapping in a claim for every single one not delivered to spec, it more than covered the guys wages and saved them a fortune,

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
The drivers only take the foot posties SD's if they know they are not going to be there by 1. Why keep dumping more and more on to the drivers? The convey duties I do are stretched to the limit now and I'm always the last one done while all the others have f****d off home.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

We are supposed to alter our route to ensure the 1pm spec.Sherpas Rule wrote:We've done this for years as well, I don't have a problem with it, takes 30 seconds to phone in a special and if the locker gives me one for the end of my round, I just refuse it and it goes with a driver.
Apparently they are only a failure if someone complains!

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
We just confirm everything as delivered by 12.30 wether they are or not, works until a customer checks on track and trace and see's the item was delivered but he hasn't got it, then theres some explaining to do

We are not allowed to reverse charges anymore. Costs too much apparently.
So now the locker postman phones me.

Re: Phone in to Confirm your Specials
dont phone you do not need to its as simple as that, and any specials you know for certain you will not make for 1oclock
you leave for manager to deal with not the posties problem,so simple its easy.
