EARLY FINISH???????

Post by tommymac »

I've just picked up on this thread. Margate Postman you must realise it's not only fellow postmen/women who log on to this site but managers of all levels aswell. It comes as no suprise when you say full time jobs are being replaced with part time ones. If you are going to broadcast to the world about your early finishes your office is just going to lose even more jobs. Get real, do the job as it should be done, use the vans, work to your time and PROTECT JOBS. Take a look at the thread about my office BURSLEM. We're having a struggle at the moment and it started because we took action about RM's plans to implement this full time/part time thing. But we can all hold our heads high and be proud of what we are doing. Everyone now works to the time they are payed and our duties are justified.
It's great if you are making time for yourself but it will be to late when revision time comes around and RM start cutting jobs. You should not only be protecting your own job but those of the postmen of the future.

Ive said before on here, RM can only make savings on the time we save ourselves.RM has got lots of rules about not using your cars, put your seat belt on inbetween drops, and loads of rules that just cover their own backs in case you have an accident or something goes wrong, but they turn a blind eye to them because they know the job wouldnt get done otherwise,so do it by the book and let these smart arses try and find the hours to be saved.

We have had a good run up here, but it's certainly been a case of full time people doing part time hours, and it's all been
noted.
in the last 12 months at least 4 people have been dismissed, and been replaced by part-timers or not at all, with the hours being absorbed, enjoy it while it lasts Margate, but remember when your gaffer says we need to save 60 hours, actually he needs to worry about it not us,don't do the maths for him!

Conservative estimate. Margate 20 posties finishing 3 hours early every day. That 300 hours a week which is 7 and a half full time duties. Royal Mail are on to a winner here if they are looking to cut jobs.

I hope Margie doesn't mind too much when a revision is put in his office and an extra 2 hours a day work is put on his duty. Let's see if he still enjoys NO RESIGN. :wave :wave

Hi,

I had this problem when I was a DO Manager. I would find some people coming back really early, and I'd have a round un-covered and the only way to get it done was to pay OT or get agency staff (last resort!)

So essentially a postie finishing early could get double wages for one shift. Now I know the round is paid for, in the budget etc....

I have no problem paying a high performing postie extra money for being over and above average at their job. However, when it is obvious the round is unduly easy then that annoyed me.

Everyone knew/knows that the top performing postmen in many DO's could take on extra work. I reckon this should be done, but postmen should be paid more, and make the job a more highly rated job.

My opinion comes from the fact that you get what you pay for. If the job is perceived to be low-skill manual labour then you'll get dregs, and if you pay more you will get a higher quality employee.

I am curious to know what you think as I'm open to arguments and opinions about this, especially in light of this thread.

Easy.

Put a sixty year old on a walk, if it takes 3.5 hours to do then its spot on.

Anyone doing the same turn should take 3.5 hours - if they do it sooner, give them more work to do for nothing. They'll soon learn the error of their ways and slow down.

Rewarding those who perform a round quicker than others, puts infinite pressure on those who cannot do it so quickly. At best it leads to peer pressure from colleagues and managers, and at worst, bullying and harassment, mainly from managers.

A definate no-no.
