I am writer for the World Socialist Web Site. I am not a postal worker but I have experience in the struggles both on London Buses and London Underground where the T&G and the RMT respectively weared down opposition and prepared the way for privatisation and divisions amongst the workforce. The CWU is travelling a well worn path. I would not advocate any of the existing unions as an alternative to the CWU, or a company union like has been mentioned re-John Lewis.
Would a "writer" really write as poorly as this? :hmmmm :hmmmm

If you're going to post from an anti-union perspective, at least doos it propah like. Perhaps all three members of the WSWS could meet after lectures one day next week and rewrite it?
"Writer" indeed.... :chuckle
One well known Postal News site has a history of typos and mangled sentence structure but that does not stop them self promoting themselves.

Anyway at RMC we try to overlook such things and hope to understand contributors views, even if we disagree with them. Which is why I hope we never have a Grammar Gestapo or a Spelling Stasi on RMC.

Too true, but this one volunteered the information that he was a "writer", so the point was made.
You would know this TBT if you read it etc etc :silenced :silenced :silenced :silenced

Yes the point was made but it was a cheap shot IMO. I also read the post as well.

Considering this is a chat line I did not deem it necessary to proof read my comments. I am pleased to see that others have focussed on the substance of what was written.

Wouldn't pay much attention to the petty minded brigade. It's their stock in trade response to posts that they disagree with but they can't quite manage to formulate a cogent rebuttal . Which ,I guess ,sort of means that they disagree without knowing why. Maybe it feels a little to challenging and left of centre , still I doubt if you will get a reasoned riposte.
Fair analysis on your part ,seems to be borne out by events :Applause

I would hesitate to call this a chat line, because that expression has certain connotations, chat room or forum would be better - I wouldn't think my wife would like me to be on a chat line :Very Happy .

I read your original post and I have read this post too and for some time there has been a ground swell of dissatisfaction with the manner in which the membership has been represented.

The problem is getting that element of the membership organised enough to challenge the "gentlemans' club" approach to the present system of electing representatives. Years ago the function of a union was to represent the membership, now it is apparently a primary function to maintain the union AT ANY COST including collusion with the employer. They have an attitude to the employer of "please don't ignore us and we'll get them to do what you want".

This isn't the first time I have experienced this sort of attitude.

And that's one possible reason they're expecting to lose 1,000 members per month.

I would have thought that anyone using words like "cogent" and rebuttal" would have understood the point perfectly.. :whistle

Try again, then-

He says he's a "writer" for the WSWS, and he's either not, or just very poor at it.
He then makes the point (or tries to) that the CWU (and T&G, RMT) go along too readily with management plans. Same old stuff so beloved of any bunch with either "Socialist" or "Worker" somewhere in the title, but completely missing the rather obvious point that the CWU (for all it's faults) have done, and still do more for the "average worker" than his particular "party" will ever do.
Of course, he can say what he likes, knowing full well that none of it will even be listened to by the "average" RM worker, never mind come to fruition.
Endless diatribes, and all pointless. :whistle

It's not just losing members IWW it is actually getting them to join in the first place! There are so many part timers they do not see the point in joining and what is more there doesn't seem to be any move by branch to rectify that. There is close to 30% of our office non-union members, a position reached in something under 5 years - move forward 5 more with the sort of representation on offer and the union will have sidelined itself.

We had a couple leave as soon as the strikes were called off and one scab leave (good riddance). HQ seem more bothered about the lack of funds the fall in membership represents than why people either don't join, or leave once they have.

Any business and I suppose the Union could be loosely called a business would surely not be arrogant enough to ignore the loss of "customers" and why business isn't improving and not realise that there must be something wrong with the "product".

All very well and good ,but not a single piece of evidence or fact to counter his argument . The fact that his party has failed to influence events so far does not negate his criticism of developments taking place under CWU influence . There was a time when workers against the wheel said the the labour party was a utopian pipe dream. Unless you are the second coming or blessed with second sight you might do well to ease up on the use of "ever" and "never".
Fair enough you've got a bug up your bum about our more egalitarian left wing brothers ,but lets have some reasoned criticism as opposed to some bigoted reactionary excreta , cos otherwise it's "all pointless :whistle "
