7am are you for realllll! Last time I got to knock on a door that early in the morning was erm 2003 I think
Yeah i thought this was a bit strange to be honest
Leaving packets is common sense. Its 8 miles back to the DO for my customers so if i can help them i will but always in the dry and out of sight with a p739.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Re: Doorstepping
The only doorstepping allowed at my D.O is where the customer has written in and asked for their package to be left in a place of their choice. That letter is kept on file as evidence that we are acting according to the customers wishes.

Re: Doorstepping
DO NOT DOOR STEP! I did once on a friday, thought i was doing the customer a favour so they didn't have to trudge into town to pick it up. She claims it was never received / stolen and i got a serious warning on my file for a year. If you follow the rules then there can be no come back on you. If you want to help your customers, get them to write to your DO stating that they accept responsibility for anything going missing and will not blame the postman. Only then will every one be happy. Oh! And never put anything under a blue bin on recycling days.............

Re: Doorstepping
The alternative delivery location should be either somewhere safe, secure and weatherproof
delivery may be refused if:
the Nominated Location appears insecure to the delivery officer
They are quotes from the RM Safeplace customer licence. It is saying (in relation to the Safeplace system for tracked items only) that a parcel can be left at the posties discretion in a 'secure' place. Now does an open porch count as a 'secure' place? It's open to interpretation. If it does then surely we can leave any old parcel there. Why not is what I say.

One of my managers told me to doorstep anything that doesn't need signing for, I asked him for that instruction in writing.....he declined my offer

Can't make my mind up as to if your'e a "wind up" or a "prat!"BoxCleva wrote:I note that a few people here are very critical of doorstepping. And that this practise is deemed unacceptable by many long standing posties.
I have a life and indeed another job outside of RM, so for the three rounds that I cover I ask as many people as possible on each of the rounds where they would accept me leaving their parcels/packets. I have never ever had a customer demand that I stand there like a lemon at 7am waiting for them to climb off their missus or pull their dressing gown on and fall down the stairs before eventually getting to the door for me to hand over the packet.
I will go even further that the customers are delighted that they A) aren't woken up by an impatient postie or B) Don't have to drive 15 miles to pick up a packet I 739'd earlier in the day.
Surely this is common sense ? I get to go home to my other job and family earlier and the punter gets their delivery. Everyone's happy. Right?

Re: Doorstepping
I have been doorstepped 3 times and i didn't like it each time, first in it was in the rain, the next was a national trust magazine and a box of light bulbs.
as much as I hated doing it, I had to complain, in order to protect my deliveries, it is open to the street and can easily be stolen, I did wonder what happened to one item I ordered and it didn't turn up, got compo for it tho, I NEVER doorstep in my job, its not worth it.

Re: Doorstepping
Dont know about the rest of it, but I certainly wouldnt be happy if I had to go the 5 miles to my DO to pick up a NT mag and bulbs. Thats the only stuff I doorstep, managers orders.NWpostie wrote:I have been doorstepped 3 times and i didn't like it each time, first in it was in the rain, the next was a national trust magazine and a box of light bulbs.

Re: Doorstepping
I only doorstep if there is a well hidden, protective place to put it. The amount of times customers have approached me and thanked me for doing so urges me to do it more. But valid points brought up here about the one time it goes tits up. We all (well most) have brains, you can figure out when you're doing something you really shouldn't.
