I think you 2 are posting at cross purposes - someone wanted those calling others lazy and slow to post how long they have been at RM. You then posted that it was 16 years and axeman either thought you were one of the runners, or you both were typing your posts at the same time.

As far as I can see you are both experienced posties sick of being pressurised into doing more than possible without going over or coming in early or running round etc etc etc - you are both on the same side. :Very Happy

Just a few questions for you :-

1. Do you "flick/flip check" your mail while you are walking ?
2. Do you ever "doorstep" items ?
3. Do you talk shortcuts over peoples gardens ?
4. Do you ever run ?
5. Do you leave packets with neighbours ?
6. Do you start before official start time ?
7. Do you use your car ?

Just interested !

This thread has yet again degenerated into the usual 'slow posties are just doing the job properly' load of rubbish.

The guy next to me starts at the same time as me, his walk is the same as mine (give or take 5 minutes) and he's the same age as me. We both collapse Mon and Tues (sometimes Wed as well) yet he finishes 2-3 hours later than me nearly every day, and I don't run.

He's not 'doing the job properly', he's just totally f*cking useless and must eat slug pellets for breakfast.

There's a big difference between 'doing the job properly' and being a useless turd.

To go back to the original question and lets assume both are doing the job properly then it appears there is a problem which needs proper anyalis rather than conclusion jumping.

If we can get transparent and realistic standards and someone cant achive them, what should happen?

To assume that any delivery in any D.O is getting done on time or early for no other reason than not doing the job properley is in correct

Two weeks ago this Friday the the IPS finshed at 07.05pm on a 0610 start on the IPS. (6am to 6.10 am is prep) the finish time for some urban bike delivery duties is 3pm. So they had from 7.05am to 3pm to prep and deliver travel out and back and take the break.Thats 7 hours and 55mins which is more than is needed. I also had a senior delivery rep on site that morning to witness it all.

However at least 70 mins job and finish is nothing to do with work rates, which I will explain.

IPS finished 35 mins earlier than scheduled on the 318's no extra work is given to fill in that time

Longs and shorts as per the national agreement has led to longer Wednedays and Thursdays and Fridays, pre longs and shorts those days were 8 hours and 25 minutes long, so for the 9 hour duties the working days has been extended by 35 mins. The impact of pegasus was minimal as only one delivery was taken out and the part timesr increased their hours from 28 hours a week to 30 hours a week.

If the IPS lasted the full 90 mins J and F would go down by 35 mins that day and if the working day was still 8 hours 25 mins it would go down by a further 35 mins.

Two lots of 35 mins is 70 mins of extra time where no extra work has been given to fill that time out.

Go back 5 years and it was two boxes of walksorted a day, now its 3 three boxes. That extra walksort has come from the IPS mail. Our letter frames on the IPS are stuffed with flats every morning, due to low levels of letter mail for manual sorting.

Well said!!

The numbnut that covers my round on my day off gets to the midpoint of my round 3.5 hours after I do. Now I don't care how many gardens/hedges I ran across or how fast i drove my van or how quickly I ran, there is no way I could make up 3.5 hours by cutting corners!!! There is a small element in most offices that is bone idle and continues to get away with it. The depressing bit is that management get annoyed and everybody ends up enduring the management backlash because of a bone idle few. :mad

It is simply impossible to determine what is slow and what is fast. Every walk each day is different. Every person has their own pace of walking. Some people have longer legs than others, so we are all going to be absolutley individual in the time we take to do different aspects of the job. Some are fast sorting, some are fast bagging up. There is no right or wrong. The job should always be assessed on the average time taken. Surely the reason job and finish came about is because we all work at different rates. If someone wants to tear about like a blue ass fly to finish an hour early, as long as they are doing the job properly and sticking to RM rules including health and safety, why should they have to take on extra work at the end of their duty, unless they want to. By the same token if someone prefers to take the job at a more leisurely pace, and particularly as they get older, as long as they complete the duty by sticking to the rules, and are not taking the piss by booking shedloads of overtime, particularly on light days, then why is there a problem.
