Times Money editor Andrew Ellson’s column from Saturday has sparked furious debate after he wrote that Royal Mail can no longer be trusted. He concluded that the postal service is simply unreliable after seven letters in a sample of 100 sent by Times Money did not arrive or had items stolen from them. Several readers jumped to the defence of Royal Mail arguing that because the envelopes were unsealed it was inviting theft. We want to know what you think. Why does it ALWAYS have to be theft with these bastards? What about the fact they were UNSEALED and the scratchcard could have fallen out? Why even bother sealing envelopes if they are that secure?

We only have this journo's word for this story, and they never lie do they!

Where is his proof that all these letters were properly addressed, where is his proof of posting.
Why couldn't he do something like Top Gear did and put a tracking device in all the items where they could be tracked properly and independantly.

I think this arsehole should be getting sued by RM this is slander and where is his proof. He did say 50 were left unsealed what does the dickhead expect when he does that.

aside from that one story though,i think when you look at the question in a greater context,not so much as individuals,or employees,and ask,as a brand can i trust Royal mail.
you start to question the entire structure of the company,trust isn't simply about honesty,but whether you can actually deliver what you've promised.
unfortunately very little accountability exists within RM,as an example of modernisation,you can have one person prepping a walk into 'streets' someone else attempting to sort it into the frame,with someone else then taking it out,that's unless it's lapsed,and then you could add another 20 names into the hat.
my own assumption is,do i trust in RM's policies and procedures to maintain a good level of customer service,frankly i've given up trying to defend the business,and re-assure my customers the service will improve.
it's not that people's mail is definitely being stolen,but more misplaced,misdelivered due to constant cutbacks.

It's all crap though - when I was at McDonald's, the restaurant manager told me that there was a poll on McD's word of mouth - if you did something good ( ie, an order was a few minutes late & you offered a free apple pie to the customer ) an average 4-6 people would hear positive comments from that customer, but if you did the same, without offering something for free as a reparation, then on average 12-18 heard negative comments from that customer.....people aren't as bothered about passing on positive comments as they on passing on the negativity ( but the amount of postive comments I see after every negative RM story is very encouraging to me ).
