postiered wrote:to the tooting brigade or any other london delivery office WHAT is your delivery span ? how many houses / flats you deliver to?
Ive known some delivery offices on four day attendence finish 3 HOURS early each day, the union rep on camera should hang his head in shame when he said he ***** round his walk if he wanted to! IS THIS UNION DOMINATED BY LONDON?
Another one that has swallowed the Dispatches propaganda and its disappointing. The Rep said he could "blast" his work and get it all done on one day. But, and this is what Dispatches and I think you have failed to take into account, he would have to do the same the next day to complete it again. I personally have no problems working hard, but I would certainly not expect anyone to "blast" themselves each and every day. Yes work hard but with a fair workload not one which knackers you each and every day.
For disclosures sake I am based 190 miles from London, so please don't say I am "Dominated" by London on this, though they sometimes do seem to have more power than perhaps they may deserve, but then they are one of the largest sections in both RM and the CWU.

No idea but logic would say that the prep time for a longer delivery would also be extended.

This is one thing that surprises me and always has with RM - Yes if people want to work overtime and the CWU can get it at SA rates for Christmas I think that's an excellent idea. But actually arranging how much SA everyone is going to get - never happened at my DO since I got here. Amazing, and to be honest baffling to me.
North/South divide sorry did not see it and am amazed people did. C4 were dishonest in one thing when they showed a Postie saying if he blasted it that day he could do it all, but what they did not explain was that if he did knacker himself one day, then RM would expect him to work at the same pace the next day. I am sorry but no-one can work at "knackering" pace day in day out all the time. Management where made aware of the problem, you could see that from their comments, but also from their comments they decided to do nothing until it reached "head office aware" conditions, and then surprise surprise they did something.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

How on earth can you say that based on problems in two D.O's based on dodgy undercover filming way back in October 2009.
RML took away the 4 day weeks reduced the day by 2 hours and expected the workforce to manage. London showed they were trade unionists in action as well as name.
I tell you what albeback, lets reduce you working day by 2hours but not reduce your workload and see how you get on shall we?
Show some fooking sympathy for our London friends for they were had by RML, big time!!!
Lets stick together we all have problems in our D.O's and a wee bit of unity would be mot helpful in getting every D.O working well and a good place to work!!!
Woooah I understood it that they wanted a 10 hr day so they could finish a couple of hours early, and SOFO, thus working for 8 hrs and getting paid for 10, so the managers said hang on a minute, if you can complete in 8 hrs we'll shorten the day, so you get paid for working, not sitting on yer arse at home doing FA, sounded fair to me, but then the posties there complained they couldn't complete in 8 hrs, sounds to me like they wanted their cake and eat it. Tell you what I wish I could get my DOM to let me work 4x 10 hr days I'd love it, imagine all that time off, playing golf, watching tele, shopping in Croydon, and think of the overtime you could get in.
Management moved them to a 4 day week and a 10 hr day, they increased the workload then decided to move them back to a 5 day week but still expected them to do a 10hr day in just 8hrs if it seems fair to you put in for a transfer then!
As for the overtime they got that at Christmas, but as they have so many casuals there one for nearly 2 years I doubt that they are getting much O/T.
Yes I am a DOM and I went to London after the strikes to clear the backlog and the offices I went to were neither of those shown and yes they were just as bad with attitude and work rates. It was not just the staff the Managers had no balls to challange unacceptable behaviour or performance. I was totally shocked, staff spent hours "yes hours" in the canteen to avoid sorting and prepping sometimes for such a length of time they ran out of time to go on delivery.
I am sure there are Postal staff who really want to do the job properly in London but they were certainly out numbered by the mutitudes that sat in the canteen or played pool only a hour after there duty start times. I would resign or allow myself to be hounded out the business before I accepted some of the attitudes shown on that program or in my time down there. The Managers were weak but I bet they get very little support from above either.
The majority of Postal staff elsewhere do an excellent job and in most cases the job is difficult and tiring and I think they deserve credit for the effort they put in especially in bad weather and heavy posting times and unfortunately we are all tainted by the actions of these few.

I'm from a London office, we got diddly squat in overtime during the xmas pressure, not even a minute at SA rate, zilch. You northerners don't know you're born!
Divide and rule, Programme prompting the audience to adopt the idea of privatisation. The bit at the end about postman and women maybe doing better at school was the worst insult. Biased and non sensical and a disgrace to any reporter worth any credence. Maybe those who concocted this farcical mish mash of purposely hand picked and poorly edited crap should have done better at the school of ineptitude. Actually had they done well at the school at the school of ineptitude they would have qualified with flying colours. Silly me.
postiered wrote:that rep should not have said that to a agency worker for all he knew he could have been a under cover journalist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You saw a 5 second clip from what was probably a 4 or 5 minute conversation, we do not know what either side said before or after the clip was shown and therefore we cannot give a balanced view. The reporter showed the juiciest part and let people who don't know the job fill in the blanks, I have no grief with the people that do that, but I am surprised that someone who says they work for RM would not look a little deeper.

3 Posts and 1 PM all in 13 minutes and asking the same question .Could I suggest giving members a chance to read the other posts in other forums first as expecting an immediate answer is a little optimistic.
