I doubt very much that non delivery workers will get the door to door delivery supplement, RML are certainly not going to go for it. It's not even CWU policy to extend door to door payments to non delivery workers in any format. Simply a change from pence per item to weekly supplement.

Therefore I belive all this talk of who is going to get the supplement is not nesscary. We should stick to discussing how much we should paid in the contex of delivery point numbers varying quite a lot.

At the moment driver's PHGs ect dont do D2D, so will they still get the pay rise thats being talked about for them and we on the walk's do all the work.

Its clear there are a few people in the office that nobody, and I mean nobody is prepered to work with once these van duties come in, so will they force people that can't get along to work together.

One big gripe right now is we lost I think 20 day's through striking and was told to do the job properly by our rep, and now all I keep hearing on the floor, is for what. One rep even told us we would get duties back if we did the job properly, now we are being told by another of 4 duties being part-time and job losses when the new van's do come in.

I still support the union but they are going to have a job and a half selling this to our office and getting a yes vote.
You are wrong drivers do get D2D if they have residential or business D2D too deliver!.

Yes indeed k799aaa, I did a Firms delivery for the last 4 years before I left, and had 118 flats and terraced houses dotted amongst the firms, so had D2D payments most weeks, plus business ones when they came in

If they have residential delivery points then they will get something , if no residential points then no.

All that will happen IMHO is replacing the pence per item system with a Supplement.

What is making people think a door to door delivery supplement will be paid to those who duties dont do door to doors?

One would assume HQ thought of that and something will be in place?

That is there job to think of all possible issues and queries and resolve them.

Every OPG in your delivery office will get the same flat rate supplement.
That's IF there is an agreement. :cuppa

I am the author of the article 'British postal union seeks to deliver management's agenda' and glad it has opened up such a wide discussion.

The central premise of the article is that there are not two opposing sides represented in the talks. The CWU has been transformed from an defensive organisation of postal workers into a junior partner of management. This assessment is based upon the union's role over an extended period. To believe that anything could emerge from these closed door talks which would further the interests of postal workers flies in the face of the CWU's track record. From alot of the posts on this thread many of you have reached this conclusion through bitter experience.

The article does not attribute to the PEC anything it has not said or done, or failed to do. I quoted from the update on the talks posted on the CWU website by Pete Keenlyside and the details of this flatly contradict the claim made by Dave Ward to have secured a climbdown by management on key issues which was the pretext used for calling off the national strike. The fact that it is an incomplete picture is due to circumstances I have no control over. Due to an agreement between CWU, RM and ACAS a black out on information remains. In the meantime the PEC has enforced the no strike deal while management at local level have continued to use executive action to undermine terms and conditions. The CWU does not act as a force for organising postal workers but their disorganisation in the face of these attacks. The CWU is seeking to secure it niche within a restructured RM while the collective strength of postal workers is undermined through the promotion of local agreements based upon a divide and rule strategy.

It would be truer to say that the industrial action and strikes that have taken place over the last decade or so have been inspite of the CWU, which at every opportunity has intervened to curtail opposition and push through unfavourable changes. The calling off of the national strike in November was only the latest example and some have referred to 2007 and the Pay and Modernisation Agreement which paved the way for the present open season on terms and conditions.

The argument that 'things would be worse without the union' avoids the issue. The union itself has surrendered the gains that were won as a consequence of past struggles. Those that have come forward to defend the union take a very dismissive approach to the membership who they feel has no right to criticise or hold the CWU to account on anything. Would a company subscribe to an Employers Federation that singularly failed to uphold its interests and treated it with such distain ? I don't see why the working class should settle for less.

The CWU role as industrial policemen is matched by its continued political support for Labour which in pursuit of its big business agenda showed last year that it was prepared to resort to a strike breaking exercise not witnessed since Margaret Thatcher during the 1984-5 Miners Strike.

I am writer for the World Socialist Web Site. I am not a postal worker but I have experience in the struggles both on London Buses and London Underground where the T&G and the RMT respectively weared down opposition and prepared the way for privatisation and divisions amongst the workforce. The CWU is travelling a well worn path. I would not advocate any of the existing unions as an alternative to the CWU, or a company union like has been mentioned re-John Lewis.

I appreciate that this is a site dedicated to RM workers but there is not a Chinese Wall that separates your experiences from that of the working class in general. What is needed is a rank and file movement that begins to link up the struggles throughout the public sector based upon a broader political perspective against the financial elite that are holding society to ransom for the profit motive.

Would a "writer" really write as poorly as this? :hmmmm :hmmmm

If you're going to post from an anti-union perspective, at least doos it propah like. Perhaps all three members of the WSWS could meet after lectures one day next week and rewrite it?

I thought they met to watch Bargain Hunt after lectures.
And Tman sorry for any offence caused in another thread.

Tman, I do not think that the writer is anti-union. He is against what unions have become and not against what they should be. At the moment the senior managerial class seem to have all the bullets in their armoury. However, I can begin to see a swell of total discontent in the manual and lower management classes, and maybe a general workers party could be the answer. The opposite to divide and conquer, must be unite for fairness.

We get a new member who, agree with him or not spent a lot of time on his post and the best response is a couple of cheap shots.
If you disagree with the post i would be interested to hear on what basis.
